The Many Ways to Consume CurryLeaf Chatni - What is Yours?

The KadhiPatta plant also called Curry Leaf plant is found in every Indian kitchen garden.

The leaves of this plant are normally used as an essential ingredient in curry and kadhi.
Kadhi is a boiled preparation of curd, whereas curry is well-known

Besides the curry and kadhi, CurryLeaf is also used to make chatni.
Here are the Ingredients for CurryLeaft Chatni:

List of Ingredients for CurlyLeaf Chatni:

  1. Curry leaves that are fried lightly in oil to give it crispiness.
  2. Roasted chana or harbabra daal that is yellow ChickPeas in very little oil.
  3. Roasted Til i.e. sesame in very little oil.
  4. Dry red chilies that are fried mildly to make them crispy and reduce the spiciness.
  5. Roasted moong daal in very little oil.

Recipe

  1. Put all ingredients together and run through a mixer or a hand-operated stone khalbatta or hamam dasta for the best aroma.
  2. This will give it a unique color, texture, and taste that can be varied by the contents of the ingredients.

Health Benefits of KadhiPatta Chatni

This is entirely credited to @Arati from the comments section:

  1. Curry leaves are good for health and have many benefits. Daal (Peas) has proteins.

  2. Curry leaves help in weight loss, in treating dysentery, constipation, eliminating bacteria, good for diabetics, and eyesight besides useful in healing wounds, burns, and skin eruptions.

Where else to use KadhPatta Chatni?

  1. The normal use of a chatni is along with roti or with khichadi.

  2. Many people consume chatni along with Shira that is also called suji halwa.

  3. I have normally consumed KadhiPatta chatni with plain khichadi.

  4. The photo below shows use of the KadhiPatta chatni on a masala dosa to enhance its taste.

What are the interesting ways that you consume KadhiPatta chatni?

wow @TusharSuradkar it looks great. I heard that curry leaves are good for health and has many benefits. Daal (Peas) has proteins, combination of this both is great.

I am going to try this chutney today, By the way How many hours do we need to soak??

Thank you for sharing with us.

Thank you @Arati for highlighting the health benefits of curry leaf and the daal.

DidnтАЩt realize it earlier but totally agree.

I think if you use warm water, it should get soaked within 2 hours.

Else in normal water, my wife leaves it for soaking overnight, which I think would be a bit of тАШover-soakingтАЩ.

If you observe the second picture, the daal grains are still intact after grinding the mixture in a food-processor or khalbatta.

That is to be ensured, else due to over-soaking, there is the risk of it becoming a paste.

Note that I am not the cook but only the тАШTest BunnyтАЩ to try out the recipe

Yup, Over night may not be a good option, as it will definitely become paste. I will soak it in hot water for two hours. and will post pictures for sure.

You didnтАЩt mention Salt, Salt as per taste I guess.

Thanks again for sharing and responding to my comment :slightly_smiling_face: @TusharSuradkar

Ah, SaltтАж not to be forgotten :innocent: ThatтАЩs the difference between a master chef, that is you @Arati , and a тАЬtest bunnyтАЭ that is me

Thank you for tagging me @TusharSuradkar :slightly_smiling_face:

See, there were two things which came to my mind, 1. We usually eat Neem leaves on Gudi Padva, that to once in a year, but of course we donтАЩt make any chutney out of it for sure :stuck_out_tongue:

  1. I believe on Ganesh Chaturthi we make some special leaves curry to offer god and also we eat that, am not sure about chutney but we surely make curry out of it.

If anyone of the above is correct then, thanks to me :stuck_out_tongue: , if not then we need to wait for @C_T to reveal that. I would literally appreciate him for the puzzled question which he kept in the comment session. quite interesting though.

Thank you.
