I strongly believe that the possibility of enjoying our environment being outdoors is the best benefit of our freedom. Although all cities have an interesting history, there are some that also reflect it permanently in its material aspect, specifically in all those attractive human constructions that end up marveling every time we visit a new place.
Today I want to tell you about my charm for outdoor places and buildings, how they contribute to the identity of a society, and why I find it fascinating to share with the rest of the world the mixture between ancient and modern architecture.
I have lived in Montevideo for two years, the capital city of Uruguay. From the first day I was able to tour the city and recognize that the most striking feature was the structural model of many of its buildings. The city has old structures that although several of them were remodeled, they maintain their essence, and the combination with other newer buildings of modern materials and designs make you feel that you travel in time as you move from one block to another or simply change the direction of the look.
Favorite places:
Montevideo is a city built facing “El rĂo de la Plata”. Along the entire coast there is a pedestrian corridor known as “la rambla”. It is the perfect place to go jogging, exercise, ride a bike or just sit back and enjoy a beautiful sunset. I could not pass up the opportunity without highlighting this wonderful attraction of the city for the excellent views it gives us, as well as the peace it conveys.
Another of my favorite places is “La Plaza Independencia”. It is the square most visited by tourists and next to it are buildings of national historical and political importance, such as “El Palacio Salvo” and the executive tower of the presidency of the republic.
Some monuments captured by the lens of my camera:
I enjoy spending time outdoors, sharing with friends, family, or just on the way to a particular destination and observe buildings from different eras, one next to the other, in perfect harmony with a society that is clear about the value of its architectural history and that is also in tune with the process of giving the city an innovative image.
That’s why I love that Local Guides gives me the possibility of sharing photos through Google Maps, what I like most about this country: living surrounded by history and modernity represented through different human constructions.
~ Short “About me”.
I emigrated to Uruguay at twenty years old, leaving my family in my native country, Venezuela. Here I found a friendly, helpful society, and a charming city. Now I’m twenty two and I think that one way to reward good reception is by sharing images that serve as a reference for locals and tourists alike, in order to remember the value of the good that surrounds us.
