The Lohri Food Festival at Nest, Howard Johnson

As almost every hotel in city of joy hosting Lohri Food Festival my second destination was The Nest, Howard Johnson Kolkata another star property. I went there for dinner and to enjoy dishes from Punjabi cuisine.

Gratify your taste buds with traditional Punjabi cuisine including Punjabi Ratani Dal, Sarson da Saag and Makki ki Roti, Punjabi Kukkad, and more. Keeping the ambience parallel to Lohri theme at Nest, Howard Johnson Kolkata look forward to give the entire experience of Punjab and a taste of the rich food culture the state wields.

Sarson Da Saag

First I tasted Sarson Da Saag and it was quite brilliant – not overly oily or spicy, yet packed with flavour and traditionally prepared with nutritious mustard leaves. The steaming hot Sarson Da Saag served with Makki ki Roti will definitely bring smile to anyone’s face. Makki ki Roti and Sarson Da Saag are the most loved Punjabi dishes made during Lohri festival.

Amrisari Pindi Chole

After that I dig into the incredible Amrisari Pindi Chole where chickpeas sauteed with garlic, whole spices, pomegranate seeds and fried green chillies cooked over slow fire and finished with desi ghee. One bite and you will understand why the movement - go global, eat local is becoming such a rage nowadays. Indulge in the Amrisari Pindi Chole encased in a crisp masala flavours.

Tawa Machi Masala

The foolproof Tawa Machi Masala is what I come for, expect the tender, one-of-a-kind crisp yet soft, juicy and flavourful fish fillet. The crisp yet tender Tawa Machi is smothered in an addictive, spicy local herbs and spices coating. The Tawa Machi Masala featuring incredibly fresh and tender tawa fried fish that slathered in savoury spices.

Punjabi Kukkad

Next dish I fuel up on the Punjabi Kukkad – think soft and juicy chicken pieces cooked in aromatic spicy gravy. Expect quality, authentic spicy chicken dish that will knock your socks off. On mains, definitely try their spicy and super tender Punjabi Kukkad — best paired with the warm steamed rice.

Kunna Gosht

While in this Lohri Food Festival the choices for meats are not extensive but the quality is more than enough to satisfy. Expect the perfect Kunna Gosht where tender marinated mutton in well spiced slow cooked gravy in earthen pot — results is juicy and melt-in-the-mouth slivers! Their house-secret marinates are what really elevate the flavours of the meat.

Sarson Da Saag is excellent choice as its mostly available during the time of festival and Amrisari Pindi Chole is one of the best street delicacies in Punjab but it very spicy … both dishes are pure veg @Ant_Bad_Yogi @Austinelewex
