What does the Local Guides program mean to you? I was asked.
Well. For a start, I really have to begin with when I started becoming a full time android user. The first time I had a really good smartphone was back in 2015, where I got an iPhone 6 for free. Yep, totally free. It served me well until early 2018. 16gb of storage is a pain nowadays. That was I began searching for a new phone.
I settled for not so new OG Google Pixel. And it was gorgeus. Not to mention snappy as heck. Oh and the pictures. So good, every well snapped shot is worth the while to stop and stare at.
But the real killer feature must be the unlimited storage at original quality. No other phones has them. Only the Pixels, made by Google. What does it mean to me?
It means that I, can take as much pictures as I want, make videos as much as I can, at no limits.
Who knew that freedom of cloud storage could mean so much to an average Malaysian Joe.
What does it got to do with Local guides though?
The thing about local guides is, you can say a lot of things. But it is simply not the same as seeing. For seeing, is believing. Writing a guide on a place is part of it. With a well placed shot of a place. You might not even have to say anything because some said " you say it best, when you say nothing at all" credits to Paul Overstreet, Don Schlitz and the many singers particularly Ronan Keating for the lovely song.
A picture is worth a thousand words. Imagine all the words you have to type into the description compared to just snap out the heck of it. With no worry on running out of storage. This has made me somewhat trigger-happy on the photography side. I take pictures of trees, rivers, mountains, cities, everything I lay my eyes on. It is never enough to show only a side of it. Seeing things from all possible angles is the way to do it. Don’t let anything stop you from showing the world its beauty to all.
Of course a little bit of writing won’t hurt. With assurance to a location’s accessibility and opening hours, one would find a guide’s thumbs up emoji to that little stall at the end of the village super helpful in times where you feel a little shy to ask the locals for the best nasi lemak in town.
My P.S to all, don’t stop guiding. You all rock!
Thanks and good-bye. Pray for the world to heal. Covid-19 is hitting us hard. I’ll pray for you too!
