What Local Guides means to me: Having an impact and making a transition
The Local Guides Program helped me to become a Google My Business Advisor
Before the Coronavirus outbreak I was for 12 years a local restaurant marketing advisor with our own fine dining guide in Bursa. So I was travelling a lot in the city to carry out various operations for my company. I made contact with prospective clients including newly established businesses and those about to start operating, discussing with the owners their vision and needs, photographing their venues and the cuisine they were offering and organising the shooting of short promotional films. I was also involved in developing their websites and selling and installing POS systems.
Not so long ago, I knew that GMB (Google My Business) would some day make my business redundant long before the real impact of GMB was known. I would warn my teammates because I thought Google’s reviews and photos would be the leading guide in the business world.
From day one, I have always been a white hat advisor so integrity and accountability in my relations with my customers were always paramount. While this is the kind of person I am naturally, it also has the benefit of winning the trust of others which greatly assists open and clear communication.
I always thought of how to be in harmony with GMB and to ride the big waves rather than be overwhelmed by circumstances. And I knew that to help my customers I should have the attitude of revealing the real benefits for them.
The friend of my own dear dentist is an orthodontist who is incredibly successful in her profession with exceptional doctor - patient relationships skills. A better Patient CRM solution was primarily needed by her. I created a flexible - user friendly and robust “Patient Reservations - CRM - Contacts - Call Record - Financial Records - Reports - Archive - Cloud Backup” system by combining Google Calendar - Google Drive - Google Sheets - Google Contacts - Multiselect for Trello - Cronofy - CubeACR for the team of 3 people. Then I completed the export of more than 7000 patient records and transferred them to the new system. They were completely happy in the end and were amazed by the pleasure and ease of using Google products from all their devices. She also enjoyed not paying annual fees for her old software. ? I also provided data recovery support from Trello once with Bridge24.
She was using Instagram posts effectively to communicate with clients and promote her business but not having any grasp of the potential of Google Maps to make her presence known and convert the enthusiasm and loyalty of her clients to become a reviewable entity and thus announce more clearly her dedication to her profession, her business was unable to get sufficient traction in the marketplace to expand.
My task was to open her office’s account on Google Maps and Google My Business. And I encouraged her to just collect honest reviews from her patients by using review collector URL.
Within a few weeks, the results were incredible. All the reviews were completely enthusiastic and filled with genuinely positive feelings pouring from the heart of her patients. 44 reviews and 5 full scores. She personally responded to all the reviews. This is very rare in her industry. When you quickly read any five or ten of them and you could feel that you have found your doctor. So now she is able to attract many patients from distant cities. The strong and close relationship with the patients gave her an advantage to grow.
Being an active moderator for more than 100 places and helping local businesses in times when they encounter significant challenges has always been an exciting and transformative journey for all concerned. By working within the Local Guides system, it’s made me more aware of my priorities both in the social and business sphere. Believing that abundance will come from good practices has proved itself in my experience in the Local Guides program. My involvement in this program has made me even more aware of the importance of listening and observing.
A huge chunk of the points I earned in the Local Guides came from intensive editing, not reviewing. I think reviewing is a job that will not happen without attention and common sense, and it will greatly affect things. I have always offered my clients face-to-face reviews.
I was born in Bursa and I love my city. I like to see people being successful and I’m very motivated to work with businesses to identify the reasons for that success as a way of promoting a dynamic social and business community.
