Hi, my name is Abi Sevilla, I am Mexican and a local guide from Temoaya, State of Mexico.
27 years ago I was born in Temoaya an indigenous rural municipality, here I have lived and grown most of my life, I walked on its simple streets, I played in the beautiful green fields, I got wet with the water of the rivers, I helped cultivating family grounds and studied here until high school. I love this place because it’s a place with history and culture, since population we are indigenous otomíes and we preserve our own traditions, customs and language, that is why it’s recognized and visited, we also have numerous natural landscapes by being a place demographic growth recent.
But I was growing and my needs were changing along with the image I had of Temoaya, since there were no universities and job opportunities, due to this situation, my family and neighbors began to work at an early age outside the municipality, or had more than one job; my dad did the same and quit his job and he dedicated himself to forming his own office with clients from the municipality and together with my mom and my brothers work in cultivation and selling plants. I loved being with my parents, doing crafts with my mom and accompanying my dad, I liked to go because I saw the great potential of my neighbors materialized, from there I knew that I wanted to dedicate myself to the same as my dad and create something of my own to support others.
In 2018 my dream came true because we opened an family business, at that time I learn more approach to Google maps, since we add our business in Google maps, as of this I realized the effect of add a place on the map and saw that it converged with my professional vocation and contribute to local growth, so I added many more businesses, I gave my opinion on my experience in them and answered questions that asked in Google Maps about the places I visited, payed more attention to the local economic and business development that manifests itself in the opening of more businesses and I am glad because with this the image of Temoaya is being renewed and it is no longer just a place characterized by its historical past, we are growing by creating our own opportunities and appearing on the map as a good option for local and foreign investors.
I love photography, social networks and technology, that’s why I was delighted to discover that my experiences are useful for other people, since I began to receive notifications of Google maps with cute messages that recognized my contributions, I was very excited to read them, I felt important and at that time I took it as a challenge and I wanted to continue contributing more to earn more points, it is fun to do it and best of all, I do it from my smartphone, where I have all necesary it takes to do it: photos, videos and information. I like to keep as many memories as possible and Google maps helps me with that because it keeps the list of all my visited places, contributions and photos.
I did not know that Connect live existed, much less did I think that I would be invited to be part of it, so I’m excited apply in the an I would like to be one of the people chosen to attend in this event. I still have a long way to go and places to add of my municipality and I know I will achieve it with the help of local guides program… thanks for helping me achieve my personal, professional goals and do possible.
