I’m 23 years old. I live in Mumbai, India. I got my first smartphone when I was 16 years old. Unfortunately, it was not an Android phone. I was not exposed to the Local Guide community yet.
In 2014, my brother bought a new phone and let me have his old Android smartphone. It was a new world for me. I was excited to get my hands all over it. I’m a techie and naturally it was very fascinating for me to use all the features of the phone. I would use Google Maps a lot to commute around but it was disappointing at times because back then Google Maps was not often updated (in India). So I decided to do something about it. I found out ways to improve the map so that the problems I face while using the map are not faced by anyone else. I started updating closed roads, new roads, businesses, and many more things.
Google Maps has come a long since then. It has become a huge platform filled with local guides, constantly updating Google Maps everyday and making it better everyday. It also has become seamless to update anything now. Everything is probably 2 or 3 clicks away and you can do it all from your smartphone.
I love the Local Guide Program because it recognizes my efforts as a Local Guide and gives me a status in the Local Guide community.
Thank you.
Let’s make the world a better place to live.
This is the first photo I uploaded to Google Maps in 2015. I was terrible at photography back then.
