In many countries of the world, there is a law against Domestic Violence especially between Partners, many go the extra mile to ensure that in the event that this occurs and it leads to separation of the Partners, the care and custody of the child is taken into consideration and is of utmost importance.
Many people call me a Lawyer, I laugh and tell them that; āI am the Lawyer that never went to Law Schoolā. My immediate Elder sister is a Magistrate, but there is no āgeneā that passes on the law degree, right?
I love the Law and can rarely participate actively in anything with no clearly defined rules.
So, also, I never keep friends who have no āstrength of Characterā. Be Hot or Cold, not lukewarm or somewhere in between.
However, recently, my stance was challenged.
What happened?
A woman had come up to me to report how her husband would abuse her, fail to
Support her financially, care for their children, or give her funds to run her business. What was worse? he was always accusing her of marital infidelity!
I hate to meddle in these kind of affairs or any affair for that matter (I am one of those who would have applied for an extension of the 24 hours if it was possible, so there is sparely any time left to gossip), but she had complained so many times and I was moved to help her.
During my Photo walk, two Sundays ago, I had come across a Human Rights office located in the Kingās Complex
I recalled it so clearly, because it was challenging taking a picture and getting the details without getting harassed.

So, I thought to myself; āOh, I am a Local Guide! How will this woman ever be able to find things worth doing and places worth visiting in this condition?ā
I decided to give her the address of the office, just then, I stopped and reconsidered when I thought about the mentality of the people here! This woman will get severely maligned and at the end of it all, nothing may come out of it.
So, I decided to have a word with her husband, instead.
Listening to both sides, I learnt a lot! At the end of the day, the issue was resolved amicably.
Dear Local Guides, as we help people around the world find places worth visiting and things worth doing around the world, let us keep in mind, to amplify the people over these places.
Each time we want to add a feature, let the people who will use these places and these features be the one to motivate us to make these changes.
As I learnt from āsomeone specialā; Megan Coburn āKwiksatikā here on Connect (at an Accessibility Meet I had attended); āwhen I see a broken feature, I do not run to take a picture to put it on Maps, I speak to the people who use this feature, I listen to them, because this is not so much about a feature, as it is about a Community, who I want to bring their challenges to the fore and make their voices heardā.
This was the approach I employed in solving this issue over helping the woman find the Human rights office.
