“The Kite Flying in Sri Lanka”

A kite is a wonderful thing that always makes happy anyone. The specialty of this object is we can make it as its traditional diamond shape to any shape or 3D kind with flying ability. Even simple to complex ideas can make a simple flying object which makes a good deal with wind.

Sri Lankan, from children to elders, as in other nations love to make kites in different styles and fly them. April-July/August is the most desirable season to fly kites. May is an important month for Some Sri Lankan because of the “Vesak Festival”. During this festival, people make various beautiful Vesak lanterns using bamboo sticks and Tissue papers of various colors. While making lanterns, they also make kites using those things.

The traditional diamond shape with a long tail is known as “The Snake shape” here. Everyone knows to make it and this shape is the maiden kite of everyone. When children turn into Youngers, most girls avoid flying kites. But, boys love to make kites always. It does not mean there are traditional rules or restrictions for girls. But, most of the time girls become teenagers they focus their attention on studies and other hobbies, then forget to make kites.

Famous Kite Festival

When it’s July 2016/2017, a famous media corporation in Sri Lanka started a Kite festival in Gall face green, Colombo. This event had a few competitions for various age groups, various theme categories, etc. this picture had captured at that event in 2018. From 2019 to the present, it could not be held due to the Easter Sunday attack & Covid 19 pandemic situation. Sri Lankans, even we hopefully waited in this year.
