I have always fancied visiting Cambodia, and finally, about a year ago I had this amazing opportunity, and the reality was much higher of my expectations.
One of the things that was on my bucket list was to visit a floating village once on the Tonle Sap lake. I am not really a lover of visiting touristic places, so I was immediately told that the easiest floating villages to visit are by Siam Rep and they are invaded by tourists, so I avoided that option.
Doing some research I came across the Kampong Luong floating village. This is situated by Kratie, a minor city further from the major Cambodian cities and where tourists rarely stop.
It is not easy to reach indeed, and the condition are quite tough but… I did not see a tourist around and was quite incredible! Upsides being, I can be completely immersed with the local people, downsides being, it is actually slightly scared as am not able to communicate with anyone and it is not easy to move around.
But wanted to share a few pictures of this incredible place…
Just to disclose all the information, the quantity of pollution there is pretty incredible, so the smell coming from the lake and the coast is quite strong and at time disgusting.
Still curious? Leave a comment and can give further tips on how to get there, where to sleep (I spent a night there) and other useful information you might want.
