At the age of 18 I obtained my driving license and so I became able to go to places I hadn’t been to before. And, up to this day, I’ve visited a lot of places while freely using Google Maps.
After visiting some of them, I wanted to tell a lot of people, including the friends around me, about the splendor of these places, and so I started uploading photos and comments which led to my present activity as a local guide.
At first, I was writing reviews and posts simply to document the thrilling experiences I had through my various travels within Japan. However I soon realized that by sharing my reviews and posts, with people around the world I can give someone the opportunity of discovering something new. On the other hand, by continuing to share my knowledge I also discover many unique and wonderful places throughout the world thanks to other local guides.
Thus, the Local Guides program is a means to discover and share new places with other guides and repeat that process so the information about the places around the world grows everyday.(=What does the Local Guides program mean to you?)
Regarding Google Maps and Local Guides Connect, where a lot of topics and information are posted every day, I feel that the gathering of information and exchange of opinions -especially the ones that are shared at a global scale- is something that helps expanding the likelihood of “discovery”.
Thanks to the difference in orientation when compared to other social networks, noted by the fact that you can actively interchange opinions with people in other places of the world while not feeling the distance, I can discover new things and exchange opinions, and it’s also true that the opportunities to get to know other countries’ cultures I didn’t know about and to discover something new about the Japan I live in increased in number.
As for my local guide activity, I am enjoying it every day, strongly feeling that the experiences others share lead to my discoveries and that my little experiences lead to other people’s discoveries.
Recently there are new ways of spreading information such as sharing not just through comments but also by creating lists. With this it seems that discovering new and interesting places around the world will get even easier.
