The Jagannath Parikrama Prakalpa, a project to improve the infrastructure around the Jagannath Temple in Puri, will be inaugurated on January 17, 2024.
The project includes a new pedestrian-only inner circumambulation path, a green buffer zone, and modern amenities for pilgrims.
The inauguration ceremony will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister of Odisha Naveen Patnaik, and other dignitaries. The Prime Minister said that the project would make the Jagannath Temple a more accessible and pleasant place for pilgrims from all over the world.
The new inner circumambulation path is 1.5 kilometers long and is made of granite. It is lined with trees and flowers, and it offers stunning views of the temple complex. The path is also accessible to people with disabilities.
The green buffer zone is a 100-meter wide area that surrounds the temple complex. It is planted with trees and shrubs, and it helps to reduce noise and pollution. The buffer zone also provides a habitat for wildlife.
The project also includes a new parking lot, a bus terminal, and several other amenities for pilgrims. The new facilities are expected to make it easier for pilgrims to visit the temple and to enjoy their stay in Puri.
The Jagannath Parikrama Prakalpa is a major step forward in the development of the Jagannath Temple. The project is expected to make the temple a more accessible, pleasant, and sustainable place for pilgrims for generations to come.
Hundreds of devotees came out of their homes to offer Akshat (rice) and betel nuts to the Arpana Ratha at Lingaraj temple, Bhubaneswar.
