An inscription was found in one of the rooms of this monument by the Archeological Survey of India based on which this gate was also partly constructed by Sher Shah who ruled from here briefly.
The entrance is made of two parts one above the other. The lower part of the gate opens at the level of water in the moat that goes halfway around the gate and the upper was possibly accessed via a drawbridge or probably a causeway across the moat.
The gate is decorated with marble inlay work, sandstone carvings, and tile work most of which is in a dilapidated condition and hence kept beyond access to visitors by closing off the main approach gate.

тАв Carry plenty of water or energy drink since one can feel thirsty even in winter.
тАв The parking fro Old fort is currently closed so you have to park 2-3 kilometer away opposite the National Science Center and the parking fees there is a steep INR 120 for 4-wheelers and INR 60 for 2-wheels and additionally spend INR 100 for an auto-rickshaw to reach the Puran Quila and then back to the parking.
