The Historical Gems of Delhi

One of my favorite ventures as a Google Guide is to share my love of Delhi’s historical sites with Google users. This pursuit combines my passion for history with a mission to share this with as many people as possible. And there is no better place than Delhi to do this!

The city of Delhi shares space with more than a thousand years of history. The sites and locations of 8 historical cities can be seen all over the city. I have always been fascinated by this heritage. Who were the people who lived in these cities? How did they related themselves to their rulers and the monuments found all over the city. The most intriguing aspect of all this is that Delhi has not changed all that much over the centuries despite all the variations in architecture and life. There is something about being a political centre over many centuries that has given this eternal quality to life in it. If you listen carefully enough, you can hear the voices of all those past generations in ruins such as Tuglaqabad Fortress, Feroz Shah Kotla, Purana Killa and Red Fort. They have much to tell us about our present. One of the challenges is to somehow give users a sense of this within the constraints of a few sentences. But I try to do my best one post at a time!
