The Local Guides program has been an unthinkable way for me to make a habit of perseverance. Perseverance is the attitude of continuing, following, persisting and moving forward; despite the difficulties along the way, that behavior is the sign of a true local guide.
A few days ago I took a walk to the Laguna Celeste. It took me a lot of time and effort to get there, but it was worth it. When I arrived I forgot about all the difficulties I had to overcome: the mud in the freshly rained forest, the slippery rocks on the mountain, the deceptive snow that seems firm but gives way unexpectedly, I arrived and was happy, and after eating something, I sat down to enjoy the moment.
The color of the lagoon seemed like a little piece of heaven under my feet, I was sure that if I jumped into the lagoon it would appear among the clouds and would never return, I thought about the thin line that separates the water from the sky, I thought about the birds that live nearby from the lagoon and they don’t like it much when foreigners appear taking photos. I leaned back and let myself be huddled by the sound of a trickle coming down from the mountain among the rocks.
Looking back, I can’t help but draw a parallel between that walk and my beginnings as a local guide, step by step, level by level, striving to collaborate by giving my best. I remember that when I reached level 7 I felt very happy, then came level 8 and I felt able to take the world ahead of me. Then I landed on level 9 and it was a blast. I organized a big party that was attended by authorities and prominent personalities of my city, they gave me a distinction as a relevant person and that’s when I fell out of bed hahaha How nice is to daydream, isn’t it? haha
When I got to level 10 it was different, I didn’t feel ecstatic or overflowing with happiness, internally I knew I would get there, I had a different confidence: I had a developed habit of persevering: despite the comments of people who don’t understand what it is like to collaborate without receiving anything in return, despite the ugly days or the lack of desire, I persevered and got to level 10 hehe I think you can do it too!
Laguna Celeste is one of the many tourist attractions of Ushuaia, if you look at my previous publications you will see that I have published about many tourist places because I love nature. I was accompanied by my sister Emilce (@TrekkingEmi), Apollo (the bodyguard) and Wanda (the adopted princess).
The thin line between water and sky, the thin line between helping and not helping, between collaborating and not collaborating is one click away, one click away from uploading a photo, giving a good review, making an interesting list. Maybe it’s a small thing today, but tomorrow who knows, maybe it will be useful to a person who is 1 second away from deciding about his next vacation or where he will go to have dinner with the person he loves. A butterfly flaps its wings, moving a flower, millions of butterflies flap their wings, moving the forest. And so with each contribution from the entire community. If you’re on level seven, continue to contribute. If you’re at level eight, good job. If you’re on level 9, wow! You’re a rock. If you’re at level 10, my respects friend.
It is interesting to know that there are no more levels, but if you keep contributing it is because you have that good habit of persevering in contributing knowledge and experience. No matter what level you are in, I encourage you to keep trying and contributing with quality to Google Maps.
And that’s the end of my story, thanks for reading me friend.
