Since I have joined local guide program I feel that I am important and I have an imprint in the life of people who live in my country, because I usually try to do my best in correcting the wrong information about places in Google Maps such as location, hours of operation, website and etc … , also that is the most interesting thing I have ever done in Google Maps or I will do in the future.
Not all people are honest, some people are liars and those liars sometimes cheat people by adding fake places or write inaccurate reports or information on places’ profiles. So, it’s my duty as a local guide to correct these fake information and search and communicate with the owners to replace it with the correct one.
A few weeks ago I explored my neighborhood looking for something and meanwhile by chance I saw that someone has added his home as a hostel and added some fake such as information and website, immediately I reported that place and Google Maps team accepted it and thanked me in a short time, that made me happy because I catch that cheater.
I hope that those people will decrease over time because they let our life and transferring become more difficult and the quality of the Maps will be decreased if they still do that.
the problem isn’t just the lier people sometimes people make mistakes when they adding information like when they write the wrong name or put the name on the wrong place or also when they locate the place on the map, oftentimes the information becomes wrong because of obsolescence. Usually, I see that while I’m exploring the maps, we have to correct this to make the transferring easier for people who don’t know the area and for us.
Months ago, I saw on the map a wrong name of a road in my neighborhood I fixed that, it was easy steps to solve this issue and help people.
Also, there was a kindergarten next to my house and it has been closed, several times I saw people knocking on the door so, I edited the hours of operation to permanently closed. After that, I’ve never seen anyone knocking on the door.
I’m just trying to help people with these things, I hope they will benefit from that and if I could know how many people I have helped, that would be a great incentive to continue.
