The Great Escape, Lake Georges #StateChallenge

When I’ve first visited Lake Georges, I knew that it would become a family favourite. We were staying at the Great Escape Lodge during the winter break. This hotel is featuring an inside waterpark with activities for all the family. My kids simply loved it and since then, we have returned at least once a year.

Lake Georges is situated near the north-eastern border of the State of New York in the Adirondack’s Mountain. The area was marked by the war against the French and the British. The Fort William Henry was surrendered to the Marquis de Montcalm after a six-day siege by the French and Amerindian in 1757. It’s interesting to know that it was the inspiration for the famous novel The Last of the Mohicans.

The Rollercoaster park, the Great Escape, opened in 1954. At the time, it was called Storytime and it was geared toward kids. What I loved about the park is that they have kept some of the attractions from back then and you can visit them. There’s a lot of little playhouse for the kids and they can even go in them.

The Great Escape isn’t too crowded, even in summer. The waiting lines for the bigs coasters aren’t very long and for the kids, there’s almost none! There’s also a waterpark during the summer to keep your head cool.

One of the main attractions is the Comet, a wooden rollercoaster. The Comet has a big history. It was first built and known as the Cyclone in the Crystal Beach Park in Ontario, Canada in 1927. At the time, it was known as a fearsome coaster. It was later torn down and rebuilt as the Comet. The Great Escape acquired the ride in 1989. The Comet is recognized as one of the best wooden coasters in North America, first because of its historical significance, but also because of the terrific air time.
