THE GOLDEN MELONS

“Life is golden at 50”, right? ? however, no one ever cares to tell us what happens before or after that age. ?

You can be golden everyday with the Golden Melon ?

I have been on many pages on Connect, I have seen many pictures of the Water Melon, even a picture of a “water melon bread” but, not for once, have I seen a picture of the Golden Melon.

I have been wondering; “Why?”

BACKGROUND

I had been seeing this fruit for a long time in Nigeria but I just felt it looked strange. After a while, I made up my mind that it was only eaten by those from South-Eastern Nigeria.

One day, I had gone to get some goods from my supplier at Alaba International Market, Ojo, Lagos, when someone rolled the cart by.

My customer asked me to buy and have a taste! ? That was the beginning of a life-long Love story.

Taste; I will fix the taste between an apple and a cucumber, it’s like a cucumber-infused apple, in my opinion. It tastes sweet and provides all of that extra hydration and vitamins the body needs.

ASSIGNMENT

Do you know this fruit?

Which will you have? A Water Melon or a Golden Melon?

Please answer in the most creative way possible;

for example; “I can live life without Gold, but I can never survive without water”…

Let’s go.

Please ensure you state your location, f you have seen this fruit before.

Thank you.

I have never seen this fruit here in South East. By the way do you know what type of crop it is? A tree or a plant or even a creeping crop or a cover crop?. What is it botanical name? What is it local name? You can use Google lens to look it up.

@SarveswarB at 50 means Golden Jubilee I guess that is what she meant.

Nevertheless, I am not the author of the post let’s wait for her to reaffirm my answer.

My friend @Muhammad_Usman yes, you’re right water melon is different from normal melon. Here we use the melon seeds to cook soup called Egwusi soup. I believe both of our melons are the same Otherwise show me a link to yours to affirm it.

Have a great day!

I have never heard the name Golden melon before @Ewaade_3A . I know about watermelon and muskmelon. I think this golden melon is also muskmelon but the outside of it is golden so it is called the golden melon. See the photo of a muskmelon below. It looks like silver and from now on I can call it silver melon :grinning: . Thanks for sharing this nice post. It’s informative also. Regards.

Hahaha @Ewaade_3A Thanks for the link. Your images deceived me.

I know the fruit Muskmelon we eat it alot and we eat it when it is still green not golden in color maybe that is why I didn’t recognize it.

We cook it, add palm oil and other spices and eat it with yam here in the Eastern part of Nigeria. It is very sweet and delicious.

Thanks for sharing it here @Ewaade_3A

Thanks @MukulR for your detailed reply. It is usually green here before turning golden in color.

Maybe it is because of Geographical differences, climate and soil type that makes Bangla type to appear Silver in color. :slightly_smiling_face:

Have a nice day All!

Austin, I know Muskmelon. Muskmelon is not the Golden melon, check the links I posted.

The back of the Golden Melon is totally fresh and smooth all through unlike the MuskMelon. Maybe they taste alike, I haven’t tasted the Muskmelon, but they are not alike in look or appearance.

Wow, you make soup with muskmelon? Can you cook the soup? I am looking forward to the post @Austinelewex

Actually, for my previous meet-up, Virtual Taste of Summer Fruits, I took a lot of photos of fruits found in our market at present. And you know all the fruits are common in South Asia, some are in East Asia and Africa. So, while I see any post on fruit I try to shoot a bullet from my gun :grinning:

Anyway, from the comments of @Austinelewex my idea is now confirmed about your Golden Melon. It is also a Muskmelon @Ewaade_3A . The below muskmelons are also golden indeed. Thanks.

I come to a small town there called Ebe, a friend runs an orphanage there. It’s not very far from 9th mile

I will bring some for you when I visit @Austinelewex

No! @MukulR

I like the specie of this Muskmelon but Golden Melons are not Muskmelons.

I see that your Muskmelon turns yellow from an initial green colour.

The Golden Melon is ‘yellow from birth’ and ‘stays yellow till death’

Not so Mukul. Golden melon is totally different. @MukulR

Here is the Link @Ewaade_3A shared.

Here is a Link of some important facts of Golden melon.

From my research, I found out it is also called Honeydew(melon) and its name varies from one Geographic region to another. Like in China it is called Bailan melons. in Chile it is called Tuna Melon. I want Ewaade to reaffirm this. And I guess in Nigeria it is called the Golden melon which she mentioned. It is also from same family of muskmelon Ewaade.

Now I am more curious to know more about it.

@OlgaKlimchik @mockata2 @Izumi @Nyainurjanah @Ant_Bad_Yogi @Audrey_Ngam07 and @Stella2 do you have these melon in your country, if so what is it call?

Thank you so much as you profer answers to my curiosity. :joy:
