"The Gateway to the Great Barrier Reef: CAIRNS"

I spent a day in Cairns, Queensland,Australia while waiting for my connecting flight to Brisbane. It was a beautiful day spent in the Cairns Esplanade. It is very near the airport and there is a shuttle from the Airport to the Esplanade for a fee. You may also schedule for them to pick you up again at a certain time to take you back to the airport. There are so many backpackers hostel along the Esplanade that are very low prices if you want to refresh from a long trip.

The Esplanade lagoon. It is a public swimming facility like a man-made beach with fine white sand.

The boardwalk outlook with a nice view of the Esplanade and the ocean. You can see the beautiful pelicans.

A stainless metal artwork in the Esplanade.

Having a nice brunch at the Coffee Cliub along the Esplanade. There are so many cafes and restaurants.

After a very hot day of walking around, grabbing refreshments from the McDonalds along the Esplanade.

One of the buildings in the City center.

The artworks around the city are about the Ocean World. There are also tent pop up stores around the Esplanade where you can buy novelty items, clothing, gifts and food…Next time that I will be in Cairns, I shouldn’t miss making a trip to the Great Barrier Reef…

@Ewaade_3A yes… it is really a long way to The Land Down Under

Completely agree, Cairns is great.

We visited regularly from Port Moresby. There is a very nice hike through the Mount Whitfield Conservation Park with lookout views out over the Coral Sea.

Hi @user_not_found ,

Glad you got to spend a day in Cairns and enjoy our beautiful little city. The green building in your post is one of three new hotels in Cairns by Crystalbrook - it’s called Bailey. Next time you are in Cairns, let me know and I can show you around! Take care.

@JustineE Thank you so much for the info… wow… that’d be great, woud be lovely to meet a fellow local Guide there… though I havenn’t seen much of Cairns … I think it is a fantastic place. For sure, I will be back when the restrictions are lifted. Cheers!!!
