You would all be wondering on how i saved a cats life using Google Maps, well here is the story.
It all goes back to two years ago. It was in 2018. My initial days of being a local guide.
There is this place called “Akhil Karnataka Prani Daya Sang Gaushala” in Koramangala, Bangalore. The place is an Animal Protection Organisation. This place was right in front of my office back then and we could see the entire area from our office balcony. All cows were a wonderful sight to watch. We even went in for a small visit just to see the place and hence back then, i had dropped a small review for the place. A very small review indeed.
Since then on, I started to get notifications for all the questions that people used to ask about the listing on google maps. One day it so happened that a lady named ‘Vedanthi Karthik’ posted a question on maps under this listing.
The question was “Do they accept cats”.
Knowing the location well, i was aware that they don’t accept cats. So i answered letting her know the same that “no they don’t accept cats, its only for cows”
Google doesn’t notify if the person posting the question posts a reply to our answers. So, I guess she did make an attempt on responding back to my reply but i didn’t receive a notification and she didnt receive a response from me. So after a long time, Vedanthi posted another question on the same listing asking “any nearby pet adoption service provider?”.
I was keen on helping her, so i went online, and did search for some nearby ones and suggested her a few like Karuna Animal Shelter and told her the same saying, “Karuna animal shelter is what i found, but i haven’t actually been to the place so kindly look into the place and call them and confirm if they accept cats”.
By now i guess Vedanthi was well aware that i might not get notified and might not respond if she replies to my answer on the same thread. So, she posted another question asking about the place “is that place reliable for cats?”
By the context on how she asked the question, no normal LG could have understood the intent behind it, they would have thought that its a question posted for akhila karnataka prani daya sang gaushala but only i was aware that its posted for karuna animal shelter. So i responded saying “the photos and reviews of karuna looks like they accept cats and might be reliable but do post a question there, regarding the same”.
The amount of conversations we had, increased drastically from here on. But all of this were individual questions and answers. Later Vedanthi started on telling the story on why she’s looking for a cat rescue. Apparently a cat was stuck on the roof of a neighbors balcony from past two to three days and she wanted to help rescue it. She was skeptical of calling the Animal rescue center thinking the neighbors might get to know that she called. So I clearly told her that “it’s ok if they get to know, just be proud that you did a good job, the cat needs you”.
Apparently Vedanthi then went herself to the neighbors, convinced them and took the cat to the rescue.
She then even posted this as a question on the listing thanking me for the help and co-operation i did.
So yes people, that’s exactly how i helped save a cats life that day.
It was nothing amazing that i did that day but it was everything at that moment that i could have possibly done. Talking and convincing a fellow neighbor and just being there for them.
That day after all of that, we both had deleted all of the questions and answers since there were too many.
I went to the listing again today and searched for the conversation we had that day in the hopes of finding if at all there is anything left. I wanted to take screenshot of the entire thing and post it here.
But, only these two questions remain on maps to this day. The last two questions of our conversation.
I felt so so so happy that day. You have no idea.
That’s the actual power of Questions and answers on Google Maps. Just do the best you can to help someone without expecting anything in return. It’s the greatest joy that you can give someone and its an eternal bliss for you as well.
Will always remember this.
Cheers
