The Colorful world of Indian Thalis- Part 3

While the concept of a thali is widely recognized, the specific dishes and their arrangements can vary significantly across different regions of India. In this series are presented the Thalis from different regions of India. Since I am an Eggetarian, the Thalis shared are generally vegetarian or have an egg dish.


Andhra Rayalaseema Thali

Egg pakoda, Egg curry, Bendakaya Vepudu, Kayagurala kura, Gutti Vankaya kura, Gongura pappu, Todipathri tomato pappu, Sambar, Rasam, Chutney, Curd, Sorakaya Halwa, Steamed rice, Ragi Sangati and Jona Roti.


Telangana Mess Thali

Bhindi dry bhaji, Palak dal, Stir fried carrot, Sambar, Rasam, Papad, Curd, Steamed rice, Ghee, Thokku pickle and Gunpowder.


Coastal Andhra Veg Thali

Bendakaya Ulli masala, Gutti Vankaya, Karivepaku bellam pachadi, Gongura pappu, Steamed rice, Papadum, Charu and Perugannam.


Punjabi Navrata thali

Chhach, Sabudana Papd, Sabudana Tikki, Aloo Tikki, Dahi pakodi, Paneer Manchurian, Aloo hol, Kadhi, Khatta meetha sitaphal, Sanwak rice, Kuttu paratha, Sanwak puri and Sabudana kheer


Rajasthani Thali

Nimbu shikani, Masala chahch, Rajwadi paneer, Chole, Bhindi masala, Bikaneri dal, Jodhpuri kadhi, Aloo tamatar rasawala, Jodhpuri gatta, Pudina rice, Khichda moth bajra ka with ghee and bura, Dal bati with churma, Gond halwa, Kheer, Bajra roti, Ajwain puri with ghee, Khair sangri, Hari chutney, Lahsun Chutney, Mirchi ke tapori and Papad


Delhi Veg thali

One of the best no frills thalis one can have in Delhi in a nice artistic setting with old world charm still intact is at the Triveni Kala Sangam, designed by Joseph Allen Stein and opened in 1957. The restaurant here was first started by Ms. Acharya in 1963.

The thali consists of Roti, Flavored rice, Curd, Papad, Salad and Two subzis which change daily. When we were there, it was Paneer labardar and Aloo-Gobhi


Chai Pakora Thali

The only thali of its type in India it has two cups of tea with assorted pakodas ( Gobhi, Pya, Palak and Aloo), Maggi, Vada pao, Bread pakoda, Bun maska, Mint chutney and Saunth.


Odisha Thali

Potala bhaja, Mustard drumstick curry, Curd, Aloo bharta, Dal, Saag badi bhaja, Rice, Papad, Kheer and Salad


Haryanvi Thali

Fried rice, Curd, Salad, Boondi raita, Matar paneer, Dal and Kala chana aloo curry.


Punjabi Thali

Paneer Makhni, Maa ki dal, Adraki gobhi, Gulab Jamun, Salad, Rice, Boondi raita, Mixed pickle, Tandoori roti and Papad.

Recently, there has been a trend of large Jumbo Thali, which I think is a bit waste of food.
Besides that, there are Ice Cream Thalis and Chaat Thalis also that are becoming popular,

@TusharSuradkar . Yes, unfortunately we tend to overdo things. There are these Bahubali thalis nowadys just for reel makers and instagrammers. Otherwise wastage of food and money

Wasting food is criminal, according to me @curatorofmemory

I do not feel ashamed to pick food if it has fallen on a clean floor and eating it after blowing some air over it - to remove the germs or to make it good again :laughing:

As promised, I’m adding a typical South Indian Thali…
Of course, earlier times, the Thali used to start with Rice…now, most of the restaurants service two Chapatis followed by Rice…
