The Chauncey Rises in Iowa City, Iowa

The Chauncey is a fifteen story mixed-use project, located in downtown Iowa City. The gorgeous, modern building incorporates a bowling alley, FilmScene - a non-profit theater for first-runs, classic movies, film series & workshops - a hotel, and apartments. The main entrance experience includes a drop off consisting of granite pavers, steel bollards, and concrete planters. On the east side of the building is an outdoor amphitheater-like seating and planting area that provides a seamless edge between building and Chauncey Swan Park, adjacent to the Iowa City Farmer’s Market and where movies will be presented during the summer months. The 2-story bowling alley at the Chauncey will provide endless fun for adults, families, and those seeking to do something out of the ordinary.

It was a joy to be able to tour the building while under construction. This building is unlike anything else in our community and will greatly increase the tax base in the downtown area. This makes Iowa City a destination.

The residential floors would be ideal for retirees who still want to be a part of the community, within close walking distance to the arts, culinary, and culture offerings of this terrific city. A girl can dream!

The Chauncey is progress for Iowa City. The state-of-the-art FilmScene theaters alone will be another step forward into making Iowa City an arts destination.

Great post, @katybrown !

This building looks like a welcome addition to the city and perfect for people who want to live in a high walkability area and have access to the perks of downtown life. The FilmScene sounds amazing. As a movie lover that seems like a fantastic atmosphere to watch films. I can see buildings like these being very useful for small to medium-sized cities who are looking to revitalize downtown areas with a smaller use of space (with high-rises).
