INDIA is a country which is very famous for temples and we have more than 2 million temples in India. Every Indian knows the importance of temple and have there own believes where each temple have its significance and importance.
In this post I would like to share the significance of one of the ancient and historical temple Lepakshi located near to Hindupur which is my home town. Geographically its 75 miles north of Bangalore city in India. This temple was built in 16th century
This temple has Nandi, this spectacular Nandi is one of the biggest monolithic Nandi in India, located almost a mile before the main temple and faces the direction of Lord Shiva in the main temple. The huge Nandi bull made of a single granite stone with 4.5 meter high and 8.23 meter long.
Greatness of this temple is it has a hanging pillar where the bottom of the pillar doesn’t touch the ground surface but the pillar is connected to the ceiling indicating the wonder of Engineering in 16th century. The base of the pillar barely touches the ground and is possible to pass objects such as a thin sheet of paper or a piece of cloth from one side to the other. It is said that the pillar is, a bit dislodged from its original position when a British engineer tried to move it in an unsuccessful attempt to uncover the secret of its support. Below are the pics showing those great pillars for all of you
Sculptures of these pillars are brilliant and innovative with there ideas on making unique designs and patterns carving these pillars. It is said that fashion designers visit this place to get the ideas on various designs to be printed on cloth materials like Saree which is an Indian traditional wear for ladies by which one can imagine how beautiful these designs will be on these pillars and how great those sculpture with there ideas. This temple has many such wonders explaining only couple of them for now.
As a local guide I feel proud in sharing the information on all places to everyone and especially places like above are very very special and interesting. Hope everyone will get a chance to visit this temple in India which has good connectivity and 120 Kilometers away from Bangalore city which is a Silicon valley of India.
