The best brunch; the start of my journey as a local guide.

Hi there! I am Chloe, from Singapore. I am a level 5 local guide in the sunny- no! cloudy- wait no, rainy- no… sunny, yes, the sunny Brisbane City. I am currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition Sciences, in Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia.

I started my journey to become a local guide when my sister came to visit me in Australia. When she first arrived, we wanted to make a stop for brunch on our drive up to Gold Coast. Of course you’d want to get your money, time, and calories’ worth. While using Google Maps as a GPS, a little icon popped up and I was faced with a whole list of cafes and restaurants nearby- with star ratings, price range indicators, how far away they were from me, and pictures of the place. We picked a cafe with a high rating and just a single dollar sign (,: and we ended up having the best brunch I’ve ever had in Australia. I “gave back” to the Google community by contributing my own review to that cafe. Since then, I’ve started contributing more and more to Google Maps; while others are taking pics for the 'gram, I’m doing it for the g’maps.

As a student, I often dine out and would want to keep to my budget while doing so. I also enjoy the little relationship I have with G’maps; finding an excellent place to go for dinner that I might not have known about otherwise, and me giving back by adding ratings, reviews, photos, descriptions of the place or providing recommendations for food at restaurants, and so on.

Another reason why I contribute is when people go on holidays, they want to make the most of their time. As there are only so many hours in a day, fully experiencing every location and what is has to offer whilst following a tight itinerary would be near impossible. This is why I would like to help them through my reviews; by posting my own memorable experiences, I hope to help tourists understand each location before they visit so that they know what to look out for; thus helping them create their own unique memories that they can cherish upon.
