The beauty of Spring in countryside of Cambodia

It is so colourful and beautiful both in the city where they plant many flowering trees or at countryside. Travel this time around Cambodia would bring you so much joy :slightly_smiling_face: . Find my previous article about Blooming in the city here: Spring is Blooming in Phnom Penh. In town, you see much blooming in public areas such as the riverside or along the big roads, in countryside, you can see them everywhere, but please take notes of three areas:

  1. You will notice big flowering trees along the way or national roads. Those flowers included Pink Shower Tree [Cassia Grandis] known as Palawan cherry planted by locals along the way for fruits. I only knew of its pink flowers but never realize it actually has yellowish-white flowers. Many people I know (older generation) do not even know of its existence. Another type is Coral Tree or Swamp Immortelle
  2. If you travel in the forest, you will also notice forest flowering trees that have different colour. One example of the forest flowers Flame of the forest
  3. You will also enjoy various garden flowers this time.

Big flowering trees in the village, along the street or in public places. Some are for fruit, some are for decorating

Pink Shower Tree [Cassia Grandis] is blooming with some flowers. Later, they will produce fruit which is edible and sweet! I captured this yesterday along the stream while visiting my friend’s house.

Took this Pink Shower Tree [Cassia Grandis] from Siem Reap. It was one of our study tour to Siem Reap and the ancient bridge of Spean Kompong Kdei.

Yellowish-white Shower Tree [Cassia Grandis]: my first time seeing this tree with this colour. This is rare, I have never seen or heard about the white flower Cassia Grandis. This is found few days ago when I visited my auntie’s family in another village.

Forest flowering trees: there are many trees produce flowers in the forest these days. These are grown by themselves in the forest.

I walked down Kulen mountain in Siem Reap years ago. I smelled something so good - looked at the ground I saw some flowers dropped there and when I looked up, there was big tree full of flowers. So beautiful and very fragrance!

This one below is similar to the above one, but named differently. The above is national flowers named Rumdoul while this one named Kravann. They both have pleasant fragrance!

Often sold around Angkor park, Rauwenhoffia (Rauwenhoffia siamensis) made into bracelet (Siem Reap)

The variety of beautiful flowers in Cambodia is unmatched.

Though many of these are also seen out here in India, few are really unique and you have done a great job of collating them together in this nice article @Sophia_Cambodia

Superb pictures and information.

That’s very interesting but not surprising to learn that there are same species found in your neighbourhood @TusharSuradkar thanks for spending the time to write about it. Which ones are not found in India?

Wonderful photos @Sophia_Cambodia and such a wide variety of species too - many that don’t look like any flora I’ve seen here in Florida! Until when do these usually last? Is it usually frowned upon for people to touch or pick these?

Thank you dear @SP31 unusually these trees take many years to grow up and bears flowers or fruits - so it needs right temperature which is the reason why they do not exist there. Maybe, if the government allow you can try to bring them in and grow them.

  • Flowers like Frangipani, Bougainvillea or Peacock will last very long on the tree once it blooms.
  • Others would drop in a very short time
  • Many of them won’t be frowned by only touching, unless you pick them!

Dear @Sophia_Cambodia

It was really nice to know that anybody can see a lot of big flowering trees on National Road side in your Country.

The more flowers are in a city, the more beauty grows.

Very nicely written and shared some wonderful flower photos. I got to see some new flowers :bouquet: in this post. Thank you so much for your informative post.

Thanks for sharing, dear friend @Sophia_Cambodia

Are these photos of this year?

Well, don’t you think that the fallen flowers are a task for the municipalities?

Highly thankful for tagging me,

Thank you @TravellerG that’s very true.

The majority of them were taken during my trip last weekend to my hometown, except few photos of peacock trees and bougainvillea I took in Siem Reap last year and Shorea siamensis flowers I took from Phnom Thbaeng while trekking last year too. The national flowers [Romdoul] and Kravan were taken in 2018.
