The Baby-Faced Buddha, Jizo Statues in Japan

While roaming around in Tokyo I come across the Care Guardian Deities of Children.
These are small stone Jizo statues resembling Buddhist monks.

These are peaceful figures and are believed to be the guardians of children and travelers.

They are affectionately called O-Jizo-San.

These statues are meant for the memorial service of stillbirth or miscarried children.

To protect and keep the heads warm, a red hat or apron is put on the dolls.

One such location is near the Zojo-ji temple in Tokyo and is called the 1000 Kosodate Jizo-son.

The nearest is the Onarimon Station on the Mita Line of Tokyo Metro.

Cute little ones… Right?

I haven’t heard of Jizo Statues before - thanks for this.

Your shot #2 reminded me of “Kotilingeswara Temple” (Here), Karnataka!

Thanks for sharing these pics

Thank you @RosyKohli - yes I remember those dolls that look very similar.

In Japan, they were very costly.

Superb recollection @TravellerG

I greatly appreciate your memory and how you could relate it to a vivid collection of figure :+1:

I have been to the Kotilingeswara Temple too.

Not very far from Bengaluru.

Especially from Whitefield where I lived, it was a simple escape towards Kolar.

Here’s the view that looks similar:
