The magnificent Jahaz Mahal
Mandu or Mandavgarh is famous for the tales of romance of Baz Bahadur and Rani Roopmati. The classic case of love at first sight can be visualised in the beauty of these grand palaces. Even though this little town in the Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh lies in ruins now, its walls still evoke the tales of the past.
Here ‘Jahaz’ refers to a ship and ‘Mahal’ refers to a palace, which is a reflection of the edifice itself. Surrounded by pond water, it seems to be floating gently above the surface of the water.
The panoramic view of the lakes, Kaput Talao and Munj Talao, surrounding the landscaped gardens and the greenery beyond is breathtaking compelling a person to take a step back and appreciate nature complemented by human architecture in all her glory.
