The Amazing Elephant’s Head Point in Mahabaleshwar

This is considered by many as one of the best places to visit in Mahabaleshwar. Mahabaleshwar is a beautiful hill station which comes under Satara district, Maharashtra. We visited this astonishing place during the monsoon season (August). The Elephant’s Head Point is located at an altitude of 1.37 KM above the sea level. The overhanging cliffs of this point is similar to the head of an elephant and its trunk, which why local people refer this point as “Elephant’s Head Point”.

The surrounding areas around this place offers some excellent scenic mountain views along with the much-needed calm and friendly climate, especially away from the metropolitan areas. The little showers during our visit made the ambiance even more magnificent. I traveled with my friends in a SUV car which we rented from the Pune International Airport (PNQ). It took us 3 hours to reach this place from PNQ. We enjoyed our overall stay in Mahabaleshwar, which offered some glorious scenic beauty and worth remembering exciting moments.

@RaviRaaz please do visit this wonderful place, especially in between july and September. I heard from locals that during the rainy season, landslides and flooding are very common in this place.

Hi @fasi6083 ,

There is so much diversity in India in terms of unique destinations that one may discover. Thank you for sharing a great example. Mahabaleshwar looks like a place worth visiting for sure.

I know most people prefer it to be warm and sunny when visiting a location, but sometimes the rain can make things more interesting. Judging by the photos you must have had a good time. I like how mystical the photos turned out. The lighting on your camera must be really good. What setting did you use?

I would love to explore that area one day. Did the weather make the place more difficult to reach? Can you get there easily if you are a tourist? It would be nice if you share more tips. :slightly_smiling_face:

@Ekattotii Thanks for the comment, We visited this wonderful place during the start of the Monsoon season. During the heavy rainfalls which usually lies in between November-February, landslides and flooding are very common here which is why it is not advisable to visit during these period.

With regard to your question “Can you get there easily if you are a tourist?” Yes, it’s easy for the international tourist to access/reach this place without any major issues, the road infrastructure from the international airport to this place is well maintained and the Google Maps can be accessed easily for the directions. In fact there are many accommodations close to this wonderful valley, So, In my opinion instead of booking a tour package the tourists can opt for renting a car and exploring the wonderful places in this amazing and beautiful green lush valley.

On Question related to the setting of my camera for the pictures: I used Samsung S8+ camera for the photographs and adjusted the settings to natural lighting.

Wow, thank you for your informative reply, @fasi6083 . It is good that you mentioned the Monsoon season, that way those with little experience, will be advised not to travel there. Still, kudos to you for visiting during that period. I am glad everything went well with your journey there.

It would be nice to be able to visit there one day. If I do, I will for sure use your tips and recommendations.
Namaste! :slightly_smiling_face:

Your post and photos about this Elephant’s Head Point in Mahabaleshwar reminds me of The Elephant that I visited earlier this year and mentioned in my list Milford Sound - 8th Wonder of the World! Thank you for sharing your post.
