The Afghan Church - A long lost forgotten gem

The well kept historical gem of Mumbai:

The St John the Baptist Church, or now famously known as the Afghan Church, is one of the oldest Anglican Church in Mumbai. Owing to the history behind it’s founding, the Afghan Church was built as a memorial for the troops who lost their lives and after their retreat from the Afghan War. The tall spire of the church is the prominent structure of the church which was supposed to be an indicator of a safe haven for nearing ships at the closest harbor in Navy Nagar.

If you’re ever visiting Mumbai, do not forget to check out the Afghan Church for a quaint and quiet walk down memory lane.

The building is amazing! Do you know when was it build and who is the architect? Thanks! :slightly_smiling_face:

  1. Hi @DanniS no I haven’t checked your post yet. But I’ll surely do no! Yes, this was clicked on my Pixel 2 after a series of retakes. (Always waiting for the perfect shot) hehe. This building was built during the British regime in India during the 1840’s by the East India Company. Pretty old huh! :grimacing:
