The Accidental Local Guide

I really had no intention of becoming a Google Local Guide when I posted my first photo about five years ago. Fast forward to today, where I’ve had several photos with thousands of views and a major award from Google: Some light blue socks that my daughter promptly appropriated.

There are two things I like about being a GLG: Pumping up some of my favorite businesses, such as Rocket Fizz or Chinatown Supermarket in SLC, or the ubiquitous Zapplz originating from American Fork (I am not affiliated with any of these businesses). The other thing is posting pictures and seeing which ones get thousands of views and which ones get nary into the double digits. Seems pretty random, but I reckon it’s a function of what people find interesting, in combination with the mysterious algorithms that serve up images in the order they do. It’s out of my hands. I guess that makes it fun.
