On April 22nd the world celebrates Earth Day. We Local Guides do it too, as you certainly know.
Well, this year April 22 is a very special day for #LocalGuidesCleanTheWorld. Being featured in Google Maps’ monthly newsletter is not something that happens every day. Being featured for something as important as Earth Day is even more important. Because the newsletter doesn’t tell the story of a person, it tells the story of a campaign that concerns all of us.
That’s why I think it’s more important than ever to say: Thank you, Local Guides
Thanks to the Local Guides
That working hard
Every day
All around the world
Are helping to make this planet
A better place to live
This is a THANK YOU to the entire Connect community.
At such an important time, I cannot fail to mention some of the protagonists of these seven years. I cannot mention them all otherwise this post would become a very long list, so I hope that those who are not on this list do not get offended, and add a comment.
I am also sharing some videos, created by the communities that held #LGCTW Meet-ups. The videos are taken from the playlist Local Guides Clean The World
David Tito
In the first place I can only put David. @DavidTito has been with me since day zero, when LGCTW was still just an idea not fully formed.
David is the man behind the Map. LGCTW has combined in him the passion for mapping and for the environment. Inside the map there is everything, the whole history of LGCTW, all the meet-ups, all the events. No need to add anything else, click here to explore them
David is also an environmentally conscious person, and personally active. Here his Kathmandu Perth Clean-up - WA
RiverDefender
The name says it all.
The passion and love for Bogor, where
@RiverDefender lives, has made him a hero.
His cleanup efforts on the Chiliwung river, which after crossing Bogor reaches Jakarta, are continuous and tireless. Here an example: Bogor Local Guides River Ciliwung Clean Up
Follow him also on Instagram to stay updated on his activities
Thank you for your tireless activity
Brian
We stay in Indonesia to say thank you also to @br14n .
We move to Batu (East Java) where with his Sabung Pungli movement they carry out continuous cleaning interventions. Guiding Star 2021, Brian is certainly one of the heroes of this Community. To get to know him: Batu Local Guides : Clean Up Flood Trash And Support Disaster Victims
Thank you for what you do for the planet
PaDeSSo
Probably the most supportive and creative Local Guide behind the entire Community (not only for the Indonesian Community).
@PaDeSSo is the creator of the beautiful banner that Karen and I are holding in the newsletter photo, and in the photo here above with David. I always carry it with me.
Thank you for your continued support
Kashif & Shaheen
I imagine you already know everything about @KashifMisidia : Moderator of Connect, Guiding Star for two years in a row, TV personality always invited on Pakistani TV to talk about Local Guides, but also an active environmentalist, alternating activities of cleaning the environment with those of environmental education.
Here we see him in action at Clifton Beach - [Recap] Let’s Clean The Clifton Beach Karachi
On that incredible day @Shaheen_Gul also arrived, with her beautiful message
Here’s her recap: Clean The Beach Campaign at Clifton Beach Karachi #LocalGuidesCleanTheWorld
Thank you my friends for your love for your country
Humberto @HUMBERTO_V
Surely you have read all his posts, with which he tells us about hidden corners of his territory, in the far east of Spain.
I think his recap is the one that made me smile the most, for the sympathy with which he wanted to address the environmental issue. Don’t miss his Topic: Local Guides Clean The World “The Wheel” , and above all remember to watch the video inside the topic.
Thank you Humberto for your love for your area
Emeka
We all know @EmekaUlor , Connect Moderator, Guiding Star. We well know his passion and his fantastic project One Accessibility Initiative - A Local Guide Project
His love for the environment is equally great, and he tells us about it in Earth Day is Every Day- Elegushi Beach Cleanup
Thank you for your passion
Sagir
And always from Nigeria we find @Sagir , also him Connect Moderator and Guiding Star.
You can find his passion for the environment in his signature at the end of his posts: NO to PLASTIC, Together, we can Achieve.
If you missed his 2024 meet-up, here’s the recap: World Environment Day 2024
The planet says thank you to you
Zuhra
Let’s move to Kenya for a moment, and meet @Zuhralc , Guiding Star 2021. I will never forget the amazing message she sent to all of us from Mombasa Beach : https://youtu.be/OC39_VfA5Qc?si=c9FPHPKzeSwjR_mQ
Thank you for being an amazing star
LuizDeFreitas
Let’s now take a leap to Brazil, to one of its most famous beaches: Copacabana
Although there is no recap, @LuizDeFreitas73 tells us about his experience in Copacabana here
Thank you for what you do
Cecilia
We now move on to Buenos Aires - Argentina, to meet @Cecilita and all the fantastic local Community. Cecilia is a Connect Moderator and Guiding Star, in a group where moderators and Guiding Stars seem to be the norm. Isnt’it Jesi and Silvy?
Today we are going to see his Recap for Earth Day - Buenos Aires 2023
Thank you Cecilia, @Jesi , @Silvi and all the Community in BA. You know how much I love your city
I’ll stop here, otherwise this Topic would become unreadable.
We haven’t mentioned those who participated this year, or at least not all of them.
You can meet this year’s participants live here on April 26th:
Let me end as I began, I think it’s the right thing to do: Thank You Local Guides
