Last month, we piloted the Foodie challenge in five countries to encourage you to support restaurants and cafes in your community. The idea came from @LuigiZ , a Local Guide from Italy. Thank you, Luigi!

Five Local Guides took an active part in the challenge not only by contributing to the common goal but also by hosting the challenge in their countries. We want to thank @Cecilita , @MaxPlusFood , @FalguniP , @LuigiZ , and @yamamo_cchi for being the hosts in Argentina, Australia, India, Italy, and Japan respectively. You motivated fellow participants by keeping the conversation going on Connect and sharing your passion!

Here’s the impact over 165,000 of you in Argentina, Australia, India, Italy, and Japan had on businesses in your community and beyond:

  • 434,000 total contributions on Google Maps
  • 204,000 restaurants and cafes updated
  • All five countries exceeded their original goal!

Some more highlights:

  • Australia and India doubled their original goals
  • India reached their goal the quickest
  • In Japan, Western-style cuisine received more contributions than popular local dishes like ramen
  • In Italy and Argentina, pizza restaurants received the most contributions

Thank you so much to everyone in our Local Guides community who participated in the Foodie challenge. Together, you helped others by sharing your knowledge for the places you care about.

It’s amazing to see that everyone exceeded their original goal, well done @CeciliaRatto, @MaxPlusFood, @FalguniP, @LuigiZ, @yamamo_cchi !

I hope this challenge is available worldwide soon, I mean Local Guides + food, c’mon I’m in! I have a long list of places to visit.

And maybe a running challenge might be a good idea after this one :joy:

it has been a honor for me getting my idea into a challenge :heart_eyes: , and a super pleasure being part of it here in Italy together with my fellow Local Guides friends @Cecilita @MaxPlusFood @FalguniP @yamamo_cchi in the other pilot countries.

Thank you for giving us such opportunity, I’m sure all Local Guides joining the challenge had lot of fun!
