Recuerdo entrar a la sala de Marriott donde fue la bienvenida del evento y siento que fue un flash, un sueño extraño y borroso. Entre los nervios, la emoción, el hecho de que no había comido y sólo tenía cafeína en el cuerpo me hacían sentirme al borde del colapso. La verdad es que no quise investigar casi nada sobre las actividades de Connect Live, quería sorprenderme y vaya que así lo fue. Tres días repletos de risas, emociones, conexión humana y nada de prejuicios.
Primero quiero agradecer a Google, por darnos la oportunidad a millones de usuarios de cada rincón del mundo, de aportar nuestro granito de arena al increíble proyecto que es Google Maps. A todos nos emociona compartir nuestros gustos, experiencias y recomendaciones; y si éstas ayudan a alguien más, pues todos ganamos. Nada de esto sería posible sin todos los Googlers que nos hicieron sentir como verdaderos rockstars durante estos días e inclusive desde antes, tratando de complacer nuestros gustos a la hora de viajar. Así que gracias.
Las pláticas fueron enriquecedoras, así como las demás actividades que estaban en el programa, pero lo que nos llevamos pegado al corazón son las sonrisas y experiencias que compartimos todos juntos. Era increíble como con sólo conocernos en algunos Hangouts, por medio de chats o aquí en Local Guides Connect, parecía que únicamente teníamos algunos meses sin vernos. Fue algo mágico que pocas veces he sentido en mi vida. Por ello, infinitas gracias a todos ustedes a quienes conocí, del Team Japón, Italia, Argentina, Brasil, los hispanohablantes por mencionar algunos. Todos ya éramos amigos esperando en conocernos.
Finalmente, para los que no han tenido oportunidad de asistir a un Connect Live, la intensión de este post es motivarlos, decirles que sí es posible, nunca dejen de internarlo y sigan activos tanto en el foro como en la aplicación. Nunca saben si un día cualquiera de Junio les cambian su vida con un email títulado: “You’re in”. Espero que toda la energía positiva que nos trajimos desde San José impacte nuestras vidas cotidianas y la contagiemos a nuestras comunidades. Uno no atrapa el momento, el momento nos atrapa.

I remember the welcoming activity on the first day at the Marriott as a blurry, bizarre and flashy dream. All the excitement, nerves, emotions and the fact that I had not eaten anything besides caffeine that day made me feel at the border of collapse. The truth is that I didn’t want to research anything about the event itself, I wanted to be surprised, and boy was I in for a treat. Three days filled with laughter, human connection, and not a single prejudice.
First off, I want to thank Google, for giving millions of users worldwide the chance to contribute to this amazing project that Google Maps is. We all love to share our experiences, recommendations and things we like; and if these contributions help someone else, we all win. None of these would be possible without all the Googlers that made us feel like true rockstars during the event. Even before Connect started, trying to please most of our travel requests. The keynote speeches were enriching as the other activities planned out. All the smiles and experiences we shared together will be the memories forever stuck to our hearts. It was incredible how it felt that we had already met, even though we had only done so in Hangouts, in the group chats or here in Connect. A few times in my life I have experienced something that magical. Infinite thanks to all of you I met: Team Japan, Team Italy, Team Argentina, Team Brazil, all the Spanish speakers, just to name a few. We were all friends waiting to meet.
Finally, for all of you who haven’t had the chance to assist and participate on Connect Live, the main goal of this post is to motivate you, tell you that it is possible to be part of something as great as Connect, don’t stop trying and be active in the forum and Maps. Keep guiding, keep sharing. You’ll never know if a pretty regular day in June your life is going to change once you read an email with the subject: “You’re in”. I hope all the positive energy we brought with ourselves all the way back from San Jose impacts our daily life and we spread it in our communities. We don’t seize the moment, the moment seizes us.
