''Tereré'' to the world

What I like to share most in google maps are places of food and drink, because I like to discover new places to go with friends to taste the gastronomy of the bar or restaurant. That’s why I would love to get our most popular drink located on the google map, so we can provide this information to Paraguayans and foreigners. For example: Where can we buy and drink tereré, like bars, coffee shops, parks, etc., which are located in Paraguay or in the world.

¿Why is it important for Paraguayans?

We love the tereré because it’s not only a traditional drink, which also refreshes and helps to resist the hottest summer days (thermal sensation that can reach 104˚ F), but it’s also a social drink that unites us, that brings us closer to others, leads us to make new friendships, to talk, to help us, to understand each other, a break, and above all to make us feel better in any situation.

Tereré is the most popular and traditional drink in Paraguay. It’s basically composed of water and yerba mate. But not everything ends there, because it has a ceremony (to call it that). To prepare a good tereré you must have the following:

Cold water (can have abundant ice for hot days). You can put the water in the container you want, but preferably the “termo” is used, which is a container of liquids that keeps the thermal temperature.

Yerba mate: is a plant that was ancestrally cultivated by the Guaranies. Its leaves and branches are dried and crushed finely to obtain the way in which it is now produced and marketed.

Natural medical herbs: are plants or roots to which are attributed medicinal properties, which can be to improve digestion, to calm the nerves, to refresh more or to give more energy, etc. You can mix some plants or ‘’ yuyos ‘’ as they are also popularly called. A mortar and pestle can be used to crush the various herbs and then throw them into the water.

Guampa with bombilla: the guampa is like a glass containing the yerba, and the bombilla that goes inside would be like a straw but made of metal specially designed to absorb the water without the small pieces of grass passing through the bombilla.

Finally, enjoy your refreshing terere!

P.D.: ¿Do you know how to recognize a Paraguayan anywhere in the world?

Just enough to see what is in his hands, if what carry is a ‘’termo’’ with a ‘’guampa’’, is definitely a Paraguayan!
