Thiruvanmayur comes on the south part of Chennai. There are two etymology stories around this area- One is city of turtles other is where Sage Valmiki resided. From Indira nagar Adyar, a right walk for about 10minutes then taking a left on the signal brought me to Thiruvanmiyur area. Further ahead is start of ECR thereby connecting to OMR. So walking on Thiruvanmayur area, crossing Thiruvanmayur bus station my first stop was to,
- SRI SELLIAMMAN TEMPLE-
Just a building before Sri Marundeeshwarar on the left is this small temple. Devoted to Kali mata who takes the form of Sri SELLIAMMAN here She is seen standing with four hands around. Right in front of her Sanctum yards away is Vanni tree where Shivalingam is seen adorned with Rudraksha. You get to see Sri Chandra Vinayagar, Sri Dhandayudhapani and Sri Adhi Selliamman in stone form. All through Aadi month grand pompous poojas are done while on Fridays and Tuesday’s devotees flock.

One of the ancient temple of Chennai called as Paadal petra sthalam devoted to Lord Shiva belief is Sage Agasthiar prepared disease curing medicines from here. Lord Shiva appeared here to bless Sage Agasthiar, consort takes the form of Tiripura Sundari Amma is worshipped specially on Fridays. In Her shrine a subtle fragrance of Kumkum prevails. Built by Chola dynasty, poet Saint Appar and Sambandar have sung Tevaram here. Another unique thing of this temple is Lord Shiva takes the form of Sri Thiagarajar Swamigal here. Called as landmark spot of Chennai this temple over looks a part of a Bay of Bengal.

From Sri Marundeeshwarar temple 7 minutes walk on the opposite side is this temple. Devoted to Sri Parvathi Devi who takes the form of Puthirakanni Amman here. On talking to the priest he shared that this temple is 1200 years old for four generations we have been worshipping Her. Goddess appeared as a Swayambhu here, and She is called as Ellaiamman too. All through Aadi month grand poojas are done. -
SRI KRISHNA TEMPLE-

From Sri Marundeeshwarar temple, it is 11minutes away. Walking straight and taking a left brings you to north Mada street, walking straight on the right is this temple. Devoted to Sri vinayagar this temple is also called as Mangani Vinayagar located on the point where three roads meet. You get to worship, Lord Guruvayurappan, Sri Murugar and Sri Perumal besides Sri Yoga Hanuman and Navagrahas. -
SRI MUKKUPODI SIDDHAR TEMPLE-
Sri Jadamunni Mukkupodi Siddhar temple
This temple is in two parts, one half is contributed to Sri Angala parameshwari amman, while the other half belongs to Jadamunni Mukkupodi siddhar. From Sri Marundeeshwarar temple 12 minutes takes you to this temple. He is a Siddhar who travelled from Thiruvanamalai to Thiruvanmiyur. He stayed here and did Pooja plus meditation. You get to see His live statue sitting along with a small Shiva lingam and Amman statue. There is a 1500 year old tree behind where a 1000 year old snake lives.

He is also known as Gana Raja vinayagar as per local people. Belief is there are 3 crowns land above Lord Ganesh head. From a remote village this statue was brought here and installed. A lovely small temple on a huge premises. From Sri Marundeeshwarar temple crossing and walking for about 20 minutes brings you to this temple. Vinayaka Chathurthi is very grandly celebrated here while on sankata hard Chathurthi days pooja are performed grandly. -

From Sri Marundeeshwarar temple a good walk of 25minutes brings you to this temple. Devoted to Sri Amman who is seen standing position, she is also known as Ellai Amman for Thiruvanmayur ends here and Kottivakkam starts further. You get to see Lord Hanuman, Sri Subramanyar and Navagrahas. A temple with a small entry point located in the main road. All through Aadi month grand poojas are done while on tuesdays and Fridays devotees flock.
Sri Marundeeshwarar temple is a landmark spot of Adyar surrounded by lot of things. It is where the main road leading to Pondicherry, besides main bus station, vegetables market, lot of shops and main sightseeing spots are seen. From any part of Chennai reaching this temple is easy for lot modes of transportation prevail. Temple occupy a major part of this place for they are ancient, filled with lot of interesting myth stories and seen with jaw dropping architecture.
