[Tell me!] What is your idea of a tourist destination?/

Hi!
It will be long.
Please read and let me know when you are free!

I would like to know how you all choose where to go sightseeing.

  • A place that is in line with your hobbies, interests, etc.
  • Places with abundant nature, such as mountains and the sea, and activities, etc.
  • Places where you can enjoy delicious food
  • For religious ceremonies, etc.

I am sure there are many more.

The reason I ask this question is because the other day I was sightseeing in Tagawa City, Fukuoka Prefecture.
Tagawa City
https://maps.app.goo.gl/MsmycapSV4roUduu9

An elderly woman who runs a restaurant, which I will introduce later, said to me
“There is nothing to do in Tagawa, so not many people come here to play.”

Tagawa City used to prosper from coal mining. However, when the mines closed, the city declined.

Young people left for busy places like Fukuoka City because there was nowhere to play.
There are not as many jobs as in Fukuoka City.
Tagawa City takes about 1.5 hours by bus from Fukuoka City.
The train sometimes takes more than 2 hours.

I think some kind of PR is needed to attract people to the declining town and to encourage tourism.

As a local guide, I am wondering if there is anything I can do to help.
As a way to come up with ideas for this, we would like to hear from you.

“How do you choose a place to visit?”

I would like to ask you to tell me how you choose places to visit.
Please let me know what you think!

Not a Merlion, but a Tarlion.

The Tagawa Chamber of Commerce and Industry created this statue in 2016 to commemorate its 70th anniversary and donated it to the city. It was inspired by the Merlion statue, saying, “It would be interesting to have a symbol for the festival.”

https://maps.app.goo.gl/MsmycapSV4roUduu9

Hello, fellow LG @yamamo_cchi

Yes, as mentioned by you in the beginning, your post really long.

Your question:

  1. How one selects his vocation / family destination:

First of all, according to me this question has a country sensitivity… The selection of an Indian will be different than of an American. (too many variables and details to consider and discuss)

  1. How to promote a tourist destination which was famous once upon a time and, unfortunately presently not…

Again… A very deep topic

I may have so much to write… Present time doesn’t permit.

Sorry… Shall try when time permits…

Good topics and very relevant to our community.

Any comment, dear friends @Rednewt74 @PrasadVR ?

Regards to you all

Einige wichtige Schlagworte:

There are sure to be changes in nationality, ethnicity, customs, etc.
I would like to respect that!

You can do this in small portions when you have time.
I would be happy to get your comments again.

Thanks for the comment.
Security is important for me to feel safe and secure in my travels.
I feel that the city of Tagawa, which I mentioned in this article, is not the best in terms of hospitality.
The tourist information center is closed.

Food, nature, etc. are important, just like me.

Please comment if you notice anything else!

Excellent question @yamamo_cchi

I like to visit places that provide solitude, quiet, and calm.

Also, I like adding places that are not generally attended by people so that they get the attention that they deserve.

Most sincerely, let me try…

Thanks for your inquisitiveness…

Dear @TusharSuradkar

Of course, as you responded earlier, the rural and unimportant (for some people) PoIs will yield very less number of views and in the beginning, I got disappointed…

Hello, fellow LG @yamamo_cchi ,

“How do you choose a place to visit?”

  1. If I travel long distance, I try to collect as many locally important PoIs as possible… Of course, our LG community helps to refine the selection.

  2. Local destinations selected upon information from Newspapers or media - then the location is finalised on the merit of different reviews, including Google Maps.

Revival of a dead destination, according to me, needs support from Government or Social bodies…

Regards…

Thanks for the comment.
I too like quiet and relaxing places.

It’s great to let so many people know that no one else knows about it.
This may be an important role as a local guide.
This is a very good hint for what I am thinking about now!

Thanks for your specific comments!
The information you get locally is very useful.
When I visited Iwate in the past, I got a lot of information from @HiroyukiTakisawa , and when I visited Machida, I got a lot of information and guidance from @Izumi .
They were both informative and very enjoyable!

Regarding information obtained from the media.
In Japan, it is noticeable that young people, in particular, are moving away from the media and acting on information obtained from google maps and social networking sites.

Since you can’t write your impressions on google maps unless someone visits, I think this is a big hurdle to overcome.

Hi

It’s indeed not so simple to convince others to visit a specific place. I e.g. like history, but not the history of industries =industrial archeology. But Lieven e.g. is interested in such things. He’s also interested in architecture. So, the more you tell about a place, the more aspects of a town etc. you mention, the more people can be triggered to visit a place, environment, … Tell about as many aspects (culture, architecture, food, folklore, … history, …) as possible. I e.g. use the reviews on Google maps to tell about the places I like (or don’t like). If I don’t like a place, I try to be as correct as possible: why I didn’t like the place, what was good and what wasn’t, … Consider yourself as the local person who knows the gems of your place, who can help to avoid the tourist traps, … Hope this helps.

I agree with you to a very large extent, dear LG friend @yamamo_cchi .

However, again bringing the sensitivity, all the reviews may not be dependable - of course, many may be truthful…

However, many places, we may go wrong…at least in this part of Asia.

I do also agree that changes are happening…but very slow…

Thanks for the comment and sorry for the late reply.
There are many different genres of history, and there are people who are interested in it and people who are not.
>Consider yourself as a local person who knows the gems of your place, who can help to avoid the tourist traps.

It’s important.
It would be more attractive if you describe what you should pay attention to and how to enjoy the place more.

Thanks for the comment.
There may be too many changes and too many difficulties.

Changing the topic a bit, if you post still and video images on google maps along with word of mouth, it is the video that gets the most views, in my post.
I am now thinking about how to use video to increase the chances of people getting to know us.

I do fully agree that some videos are getting better views compared to stills… However, for me the most viewed photos are still in stills.

Thanks for your valuable companionship, dear friend @yamamo_cchi
