#TeamItaly - Italian culture between ancient and modern

Where are you from? This is a very common question, when you travel. “I’m from Italy” is a reply that usually start a process of elaboration, that can clearly tell you what Italy means, for the “not Italian” people.

Italy is …

Italy is … the Long Boot, with the head in Europe and the tip in Africa

Italy is … Food, of course, with two main elements identified on Pasta and Pizza

Italy is … Wine, that take a separate place, independent from food

Italy is … Fashion, where a special place is for Shoes

Italy is … Arts and Culture, from Caravaggio to Raffaello, to Dante

Italy is … History, from the Roman Empire to the Maritime Republics

Italy is a country of poets, navigators and Saints, we say when we talk about my country

Well, this is what most of the people think about Italy. Everything is true, of course, but …

Is Italy only this? No, it is not. There is another Italy, where the keywords Food, Wine, Fashion, History, Arts and Culture, have a different meaning. An Italy to discover

What #TeamItaly wants to do, with this challenge, is to show you a different Italy

Do you want to meet #TeamItaly? Here you can do it: “#TeamItaly - About us

What is coming in your mind if I say Napoli (Naples)? Most of the people will probably think about Pizza, or about Pompei. Well, @LuigiZ is showing us a different view, with an amazing post about “Naples Underground”. A city under the city, unknown to the most: A big piece of ancient History, that was live again during the WW2. I don’t need to tell you more, Luigi’s post is here

What about Rome? With Roberta ( @inviaggioconlollo ) you will discover an unconventional and amazing part of the city. A bit “radical-chic” Roberta says, but definitely amazing. Follow the link to explore the unexpected, in the Italian Capital city.

Back to the conventional, Ermes will write (again) about the Italian Wines. We will explore with #TeamItaly the territory of wines.

But Italy is not only wine. There is a big tradition about beer, can you believe it? Follow Riccardo ( @RiccyB )to know more about the beer production in Italy.

We move back to the classic Italian Tradition with Nicolò, ( @nicspelgatti ) through a Visit to La Scala di Milano, one of the most Iconic Italian Theaters.

We mentioned the Saints, minutes ago. So here we are, with @manulele81 introducing to us the story of San Benedetto da Norcia, patron Saint of Europe. Sing with him “when the saints go marching in……”

Well, If you know so many things about Italy, is because the Italians promoted their country very well, all around the world. In fact, Italians are everywhere. Emigrants from the end of the XVIII century, they moved and promoted the Italianity in the world. @GiulianoOrlando , Italian living in Brazil, will talk about his experience.

What do you know Sardegna, (ok, call it Sardinia, if you like) the wonderful island on the left side of Italy? Today @Matt95Bassett will tell us about an ancient tradition, “Sa Sartiglia

Calabria, area of emigration. Beautiful forests in the south of Italy, and amazing cities. Gabriele ( @GabrieleDAmbrosio ) will introduce Calabria to us

Well, this is just the beginning, we will have more for you, starting from “Do you speak Italian?”. If you do, if you have studied Italian at school, but you have never been here, with your first trip you will probably be surprised. Even if actually most of the Italian speak Italian (funny, isn’t it?) in Italy we have 23 territorial languages, and more than …. (well, you will have to wait for the post)

That’s all folks, for now. Follow the links, and have a funny day. Please do not forget to reply. We are Italian, we love to chat.

Thank you for reading and, if you plan to visit Italy, just contact us. We will be happy to help

Great post and good that Italy is as well entering the challenge @ErmesT and @LuigiZ

Maybe I add something like a outside view:

  • Funny, that you did miss ice cream under food, because this is the first I would relate to Italy, beside Pizza and Spaghetti of course.

  • The home of hospitality

  • The link between the North and the South European Culture.

  • A natural adventure, as it have so many different natures along his boot.

  • Not only due to Venice, but Italy is as well the country of LOVE and Romantic.

  • Well, and it is of course the country which surrounds the Vatican and San Marino. I’m not sure if there is any other country in the world who has two enclaves.

  • The country of body language

  • And maybe I would somehow relate soccer to Italy? !!!

  • The home of many Saints

Thank you @Emmik20 , I am proud that I like it.

Thank you also for mentioning “Azzurri”, even if I need to explain this wold. In fact Azzurro (light blue) is the color I have used on the title, together with Red, Withe and Green, the colors of the Italian flag. Azzurro is the color that is representing Italy in sport, is the color of the Italian Teams all around the world.

Forza Azzurri, is what we say when Italy play

@ErmesT I think @TorM means the common gesture with the hand .

Really @LuigiZ ? LOL

Yes, I know what Torben means. We paint our words on the air. Myself, I am gesturing a lot

We can consider this like the dialect number 24.

This is classic Italian, I think there is a video somewhere about that, maybe from Troisi

Oh yes @ErmesT LOL, everywhere I meet on a business trip they always show me the “hand gesture”, I don’t know how to call it … I think you understood which one haha.

But true we use to gesture a lot while talking, myself as well … we can make a full air painting gallery :stuck_out_tongue:.
