[#TeamIndia] TeamIndia Presents - India - An overview - TravellerG & Gurukrishnapriya

Today is August 15th, The Independence Day of India….

We, two proud Indians, would love to share few facts about our Motherland “India”!

A brief Introduction & Overview:

The name India has originated from Indus and the Persian word Hindu. India is the mother of many religions and diverse cultures - a place of rich and varied heritage. Vedic Civilization, Magadha Empire, The Gupta Dynasty, Vijayanagar Empire, The Mughals, Chera, Chola, Pandyas, and the Colonies which ruled India, contributed to these great cultures.

India is known as a land of blessings (Punya Bhoomi). When the whole world was still in the Stone Age, India was the cradle of civilizations. The Indus Valley Civilization dated about 3300 BC is a perfect example.

The time when everyone were assuming that the earth is flat, ancient Indian scriptures mentioned Earth as ‘Bhoogol’ (Sanskrit), which means Round Earth & that assures that our ancestors had the knowledge of earth being round.

The Indian culture, which is an amalgamation of several various cultures, influenced by the history which is several thousand years old, where Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism, and many other religions were born.

India is spread over from the mighty Himalayas to the cultivated peninsula of Kanyakumary, from the deserts of the West to the humid deltas of the East, from the dry heat and cold of the Central Plateau to the cool forest foothills.

With over 1.3 billion people, India is the most populous democracy in the world, governed by parliamentary system consisting of 29 states and 7 union territories (as of August 1st, 2019), which is close to a 5 Trillion Economy.

Heritage: Again, the topic is so vast, that we just mentioning a few headings, alone: The alternate Medicines like Ayurveda, Naturopathy, Siddha and Unani, which are age old Indian practices, are presently widely accepted globally. And, as you all are aware, we inherited Yoga and Meditation from the Rishis, which is, today, a single medicine for the joint Health of BODY, MIND & SOUL.

We speak different languages, dress differently, follow different religions, eat different food but are of the same temperament – for happiness or pain, festival or celebration – we are together – United through diversity.

Joint family system, arranged marriages, celebrating festivals, fasting, greeting with Namasthe are some of the age-old systems still followed in India.

Science & Education: From Nalanda & Thankshashila, to Chandrayaan 2. Research and Development of different fields build our vertebra.

Art & Culture: Due to the long history, India is blessed with different Cultures, Arts, including Performing Arts like Bharatanatyam (Tamil Nadu), Kathak (Uttar Pradesh), Kathakali (Kerala), etc.

Indians are spread throughout the world, helping the development and progress of different countries with their hard work and intelligence.

East or West India is the best! North or South India is rich!!

@TravellerG

And to all Indian localguides

Good evening. I am honored to be able to mention.

And congratulations on Indian Independence Day. The history of building a cultural civilization in favor of the Indus River is a very important cultural civilization that is indispensable for the development of this planet. I feel that the cultural civilization that India has built is the most important thing for the earth today. Gandhi studied with school textbooks when I was in elementary school. Now again, I commend his great achievements and hope for the further development of India. Thank you very much. Regard

Hi @TravellerG

Kudos for your initiative.

You have nicely covered most of the significant points.

I wish to highlight some more.

Along with many common cultural threads, we also exhibit extensive diversity.
A wide variety of languages and their different scripts is a significant one.

At the same time, we overcome that because of the compelling doctrine which says “Guest is a God”!
Also, the pilgrimages through the ancient times, i.e. “Tirth-yatras” has kept us unified.

One more impressive tradition was to transfer the entire knowledge through memorizing only, i.e. in a true paperless fashion.

Let’s cover all these aspects and many more to make some great posts.

Thanks @Gurukrishnapriya and @TravellerG for this great post to the #TeamChallenge! Hope to see more #TeamIndia posts!! It’s actually quite hard to cover so much about India in a post but I think you’ve done a great job. You did miss out on food and drinks  but I’d imagine I would see future posts that covers all these in greater detail! Any chance you could cover traditional music and perhaps Bollywood? Would love to see what Indians think of Bollywood.

Small note: You may want to edit your title a bit for the spelling mistake in TeamIndia

“…it’s just the tip of the iceberg…” You wrote it correctly - A whole human life span cannot detail these; but still, we, as a team are trying our best to bring out some useful posts.
