Today’s Hampi, although remains as “Ruins”, still has many FACTS/Stories to explain/tell us - many ‘findings’ which are already with us are mindblowing and some are unbelievable too. I do not have enough strength of imagination, what Scientists in the coming years will explain to us.

The Musical Pillars, detailed by our @Harsha_Reddy (Post Here) is one of the wonders, archaeologists have explained to us. Can you Imagine - Just ordinary looking Granite Pillars, if tapped with hand (sandalwood stick) can produce tuned musical notes!? (of course, after the invasion & destruction, the timber of the sound has changed).

Now listen carefully… Centuries back, people knew Sound & its relation with “Visual Patterns of Sound” - Today we study this as a branch of science called “Cymatics”.

Cymatics deals with the study of the visual form of sound (in the space - 2 or 3 dimensional). Any musical note produced can be visually seen - the shapes will depend upon different parameters, including frequency, media, etc.

If fine particles (Ex: fine sand) are spread on a vibrating plate (Ex: Thin plate or Diagphram) and if the plate is subjected to different Sound Frequencies (Ex; rub the plate with a Violin Bow), then we can see that the particles take special shapes.

[YouTube gives beautiful explanations about this].

As examples, the following Photos show the patterns created by Sound Waves.

[from WikiMediaCommons, with the heading of “Assembly of microscale materials on Faraday waves” [Collection of 16 Different Cymatic Patterns)]

Hope this gives you an idea - these are “Sound Shapes”! - Says, Cymatics… OK?

Now is the Climax:

The Vijaya Vittala Temple (in Hampi) is a complex & the Ranaga Mantapa (the performance hall) is where the musical concerts & dances, etc. [Google Maps Here] were conducted. The Roof of this hall has many of such Scientific Patterns (Closely resembling the Cymatic Patterns)!!!

Kindly see the following 3 Photos of the roof of Ranga Mantapa - AND - Compare it with the “Concepts” of the above Cymatic Patterns (photos) - you can easily feel the closeness.

IMP: Pattern -03. In this Pattern, the dancing females are tapping with sticks - hope you can see…

Why they took all the pain to create these patterns/carvings/engravings & kept it on the ROOF - And that too in the Musical Hall?

  1. I have expressed my part - now, can you all give your answer to this question, please? Thanks for your contributions, in advance.

  2. Many of you will have a collection of such Patterns/Images from Rangoli/Kolam, etc. - Right? Can you post some of them, similar to these, in your response?

    NOTE:

The following image is taken from the post (Here) of our senior LG @Gurukrishnapriya , regarding KOLAM. Here also we can see the similarity…

Regards to all who visited this post.

Thanks for your kind response, friend @Sophia_Cambodia

Wow. So many NEW discoveries, but it’s intriguing to think about the ancient knowledge we somehow lost along the way. Those Cymatic sound patterns closely resemble many crop circles that (allegedly) appear mysteriously. Either way, it’s clear the ancient world was more aware of this planet then we are even now.

thanks for posting.
