Let’s briefly review the main attractions of our country by regions.
Now there are 6 regions in Belarus and its capital Minsk.
Brest region is known for its historical and natural monuments, such as legendary Brest Fortress, the oldest forest of Europe Białowieża Forest (Biełaviežskaja Pušča) with its bisons, an authentic East Slavic wooden town dating back to the 13th century Berestye, beautiful palaces in Ruzhany and Kossovo. Brest land is the birthplace of the national hero of the three countries Tadeusz Kosciuszko, here was the family estate of the Dostoevsky, who presented the world with a great writer. Brest is called the western gate of Belarus, it’s one of most ancient cities of Belarus.
Vitebsk region is the legendary land of blue lakes, ancient cities and ancient monuments, which gave the world such names as Euphrosyne of Polotsk, Francysk Skaryna, Marc Chagall, Zhores Alferov… Namely in Vitebsk lands the world-famous avant-garde artist Kazimir Malevich wrote the main work on Suprematism and the talented painter Ilya Repin created almost 40 paintings and drawings.The unique natural pearls of the Vitebsk region are the Braslav Lakes National Park, which is famous for hundreds of picturesque lakes and islands, the Yelnya landscape reserve, where one of Europe’s largest massifs of ancient bogs and glacial lakes is located.
Gomel region is known mainly by amazing Belarusian Polesie, which connect Gomel and Brest regions. The nature reserve, reminiscent of the jungle, unique floodplain oak forests and rich fauna is a visiting card of the Pripyatsky national park, in the center of which one of the most ancient eastern Slavic cities Turov is located. Among the other famous sights of the region are The Rumyantsev-Paskevich Residence in Gomel, ancient Mazyr, Rechitsa, Chechersk, included in the “Golden Ring of the Gomel Region”.
Grodno region is famous for castles and palaces of the famous dynasties of Europe, magnificent temples of various faiths and amazingly picturesque nature. More than one and a half thousand historical and cultural monuments have been preserved here, among which are world heritage: The Mir Castle Complex, part of the protected Belovezhskaya Pushcha … The Grand Duchy of Lithuania was born in ancient Novogrudok, the most important events of Belarusian history took place in Krevo, and the “royal city” Grodno is today a unique architectural pearl of Belarus.
Mogilev region is historically known for the famous the trade route from the Varangians to the Greeks (the Dnieper river as a part of it).
Among the attractions of the region are beautiful architectural monuments of the provincial Mogilev, a 17th-century castle and a unique synagogue in Bykhov, a palace and park ensemble in Zilichi, Potemkin’s palace in Krichev, Pustynsky monastery, ancient Mstislavl, Bobruisk fortress …
Minsk region is the largest region of Belarus. It’s industrial and scientific centre and at the same time it has unusually interesting ancient history. Among the famous sights of the Minsk region are the world value of the Nesvizh Palace of the Radziwills, the Bernardine Church in Budslau, the ancient cities of Zaslavl, Borisov, Slutsk, Molodechno, Myadel, the natural pearl of the Narochansky National Park and the biggest Belorussian lake Narach. Located at the crossroads of European roads, Minsk land entered the chronicles of the largest wars and tragic events of the world, which today are reminded of the Brilevsky field by the Berezina, Khatyn, Trostenets, Kurgan of Glory, “Stalin’s Line” … The main ski resorts and Olympic complexes are located here.
