During all the time of being an active local guide, I really appreciate to help others with my knowledge and information. I love my hometown, but also love to see the world and share pictures of cool places and meet new people. Being a local guide therefore really is for me.
Together with my future husband - who is a local guide as well - I travel the world. Cruise ships are our way to see a lot of places and meet new people. We also do city trips and try to walk off the main streets to find new secret spots.
We like to find and try new restaurants here in Vienna and abroad. I personally love to do crafts, and this is how I had a very nice happening once.
One time we were on a transatlantic cruise for vacation. Since I love to knit, crochet and do other creative stuff, of course I visited the daily meetup aboard the ship to meet like minded people.
When after a while some in the group needed (wanted ;)) to stock up on supplies for their projects, I introduced them to the world and possibilities of google maps.
So, after searching the upcoming ports for shopping possibilities - always considering nearby husband (and wife!) entertainment areas (e.g. pubs or cafés ;)) - we planned to head there together.
In the ports we went for the shops in small groups and had a really great time shopping for local yarn and fabrics. This way we also support the local businesses we found, thanks to other local guides.
Some really good international friendships came up within these groups that last up to this day. Whenever one of us is cruising, we meet new people and add them to our facebook group.
Since then I always try to find and share new places and help small local businesses. I love to talk to owners - especially when travelling - talk about crafts and local materials. It also happened, that they recommended another shop nearby, which would be worth a visit.
And whenever time allows, I am absolutely going there.
I would like to add the shops I mentioned with my pictures:
