Here is my home cooked version of Tandoori Chicken Drumsticks. Obviously I don’t have a Tandoor at home. I believe it is the case with most homes.
Here is my recipe.
Ingredients
Shan Tandoori Chicken Masala [This masala has everything including salt]
Cup of Yogurt
Ginger Paste
Garlic Paste
Spoon of oil
Lemon Juice
pinch of red food color! (Optional, this helps if you want to take good picture!)
Nicely wash the chicken drumsticks, slit them so that marinade can go inside.
Mix the above ingredients and prepare the marinade. Add the chicken coat the marinade well.
Marinate the chicken over night, at least 12 hrs.
Since I don’t have Tandoor at home, Place the chicken on baking tray and bake it for 25-30 mins at 450F.
I don’t like to directly grill the chicken, this way it cooks well.
Then remove the chicken from oven, coat it with remaining marinade, place it on the stove top grill, probaly you will get nice grill mark in 10-15 mins.
Cut some onions, add pepper, salt and some lemon juice to onion.
This looks delicious @jayasimha78 . I could have asked for a piece if I would not be a vegetarian . But thank you for sharing such beautiful pictures of tandoori chicken drumsticks with recipe for my friend guides.
Congratulations for this meal and thank you for sharing the recipe with us. The tandoori chicken drumsticks looks so mouth-watering!
I love such food a lot, but most of the times when I try to prepare it at home, my biggest difficulty is to find the ingredients and I have to improvise. Some spices are very specific and not available everywhere.
@BorrisS Thank You! I can imagine finding right spices may be difficult based on where you live. Here in US where I live there are plenty of indian grocery stores, so easy to find ‘Shan Tandoori Masala’. I presume you still live in Sofia, I found one Indian grocery store when I looked up.
Indeed @jayasimha78 , there are several Indian stores in Sofia. However, most of them are for souvenirs, clothes and jewelry. Maybe recently, they started selling spices and food! I guess, I will have to go and check by myself. Thank you for reminding me about them.
Thanks for taking part in the challenge @jayasimha78 ! Your tandoori chicken looks amazing and I’m sure they taste superb too! I’m guessing that cooking in the oven is not quite the same as cooking in a tandoor. Out of curiosity, is there a big difference in the taste because of that? Or is it more like a texture thing?
@AdrianLunsong As you know chicken is one of the hardest meat to cook, since it takes a while to cook compared to Beef, lamb etc. This is the reason I use oven to cook initially and eventually use grill, get those grill marks. I generally do this even for BBQ parties at work, 3/4th cook in oven and then grill it.
@jayasimha78 I’m not very good with oven/microwave oven! I find it challenging because I can’t easily see what’s happening to the food as they cook! I prefer cooking in a pan and I can impatiently prod the meat every few seconds and wonder if it’s done yet!
