Taking Back in Time: Places and History

One of the most interesting things I have done as a Local Guide is going to historical places. History will never change and the fact that I was never in that time makes me want to see the place and feel what people felt during that time.

So, as my very first post, I am choosing these three (3) historical places I have been:

  1. Bantay Watchtower

This structure was built in 1581. It served as watchtower against invaders and pirates during the Spanish era. Today, it becomes one of the tourist spots in Bantay Municipality of Ilocos Sur. What I like about this place is the 360-degree view of the Municipality when you climbed up the tower. The last time I went there was three years ago. Not much crowded compared to these days. It is now a bell tower for the Bantay church which was built beside it. Well, the word bantay is a Tagalog word for “to guard”. Location: Bantay, Ilocos Sur, Philippines

2. Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar

This is a reconstructed 18th-century Filipino settlement. This place is a 400 hectares property that has open-air museum, resorts, restaurants, and cultural performances. This is a place to be to know more of Filipino history. What I like about this place is how they developed the place by gathering brick-by-brick these houses from different parts of the Philippines and placed them here.

I went there last year to attend a wedding. Yes, it is good for big gatherings. It also has hotel accommodations that will take you back in time. Though, a bit much of a pricey!

Location: Barangay Ibaba, Bagac, Bataan (Region 3, Central Luzon, Philippines)

  1. Manila Cathedral

This church was established in the year 1571. It is also one of the premier churches in the Metro Manila, Philippines because it is the first declared cathedral. What I like about this place is the architectural design of the church. It has every tiny-bit details that can only be seen in this church. Aside from it is old and ancient, it is located in the capital of the Philippines - Manila. Not quite far from my place!

Location: Intramuros, Manila, Philippines

As a local guide, I am able to help those who wants to discover historical and lovely places. Let us go back in time and share some photos that will help the next generation to appreciate where they are. As Local Guide, my contribution and this post will help you in your next travel bucket.

See you in my next post!

Going to historic places like these is always really interesting @macrismallari you can see how humans have touched the world very a very long time. It is fascinating to see how the old architecture has stood the test of time and still stands today. I’m always thankful for the foresight of our communities for keeping these landmarks. Thanks for sharing your post.
