Taking a group of kids at the top of a mountain.

The most interesting thing I have done as a local guide was taking a group of teenagers to a top of

a mountain (Cerro Chame).

We were to start out journey at 3 pm. since we wanted to be at the top by 5:30 pm before sunset.

Things happened and we ended up our hike by 4:00 pm. So I though that we could be there by 6 pm

The kids took breaks every 15 minutes, I understood since for most of them was their first time hiking.

We were at the top after sunset but at least we manage to se the dusk and the city getting ready for the

night.

I was assuming I will be sleeping with the girls but tents were very small so I had to improvise my own

so I could get proper sleep.

To my surprise we were up by 7:30 and no at 6 as I had plan, I didn’t use my alarm thinking that

the sun would wake us up. But the early morning was cloudy. As soon as we got up we started to get

ready to hike down. I am thankful for the people waiting for us at the bottom of the mountain since they

had to wait for us for more than an hour.

If you are ever in Panama and you like this kind of adventure Cerro Chame is a must. It takes about

2 hours hiking you can see all Chame District (Gorgona, Coronado, Bejuco, Chame, Sajalice). IF you come with a car you can park it the bottom of the mountain or you can pay someone to take you there and pick you up.

I highly recommend to come when full moon and

sometime between January and mid April because is the dry season.

Is not wet and muddy. Do bring a jacket is very windy at the top and very cold at night. Do not start a bonfire

because the grass is dry and big fires get started easily which is very dangerous. Best time to be at the top is after 4 pm because is not to sunny making an enjoyable sunset.
