Takht Sri Keshgarh Sahib in Punjab

India is the origin and home to 4 major religions of the world- Hindu, Sikh, Jain, and Buddhism.

Takht Sri Keshgarh Sahib in Punjab is one of the 5 Takhts or the Sikh imperial thrones. The Sikhs recognize five places as Takhts listed below:

  1. Akal Takht at Amritsar.
  2. Takht Keshgarh Sahib at Anandpur Sahib.
  3. Takht Damdama Sahib at Talwandi Sabo.
  4. Takht Patna Sahib in Bihar.
  5. Takht Hazur Sahib at Nanded in Maharashtra.

Having already been to the one in Nanded almost 30 years back, last week I visited Sri Keshgarh Sahib that was on way from Chandigarh to Amritsar. It was at the Keshgarh Sahib Takht that the 10th Guru of Sikhs Guru Gobind Singh raised Khalsa meaning the initiation of Sikh warriors in 1699.

The road from Delhi to Chandigarh and there on to Amritsar is in superb condition and is 6 lane highway for most of the part. To reach Anandpur Sahib take a little bypass on this road for about 70 kilometers on a world-class 4 lane highway and return back to the same point to continue the journey to Amritsar.

There is huge free parking available outside the Gurudwara in an open space. Shoes are stored for free as well and the Mahaprasad or the langar food is available for a small voluntary donation 24x7 all year round. Also nearby are a Sikh Museum that was closed at the time. About 20-30 steps must be climbed to reach the Gurudwara level and the views from the backside of the Gurudwara show the town of Anandpur Sahib and also the Gurudwara tank.

The way to the Gurudwara which is a nice road on a steep slope is dotted with a variety of shops that sell interesting stuff like the Kripan, Kesh Combs, and such.

Have you been to a Gurudwara or place of worship with significant religious importance? I’d be interested in knowing your experiences.

Until then… Happy Guiding ?

That’s right @RosyKohli - Kada prasad is paid but I found that too was voluntary payment.

I had forgotten the word and only remember langar

On the same tour last week, I also did Akal Takht in Amritsar - Harmandir Sahib.

Nanded also, Huzur Sahib, I have taken Darshan a long time back.

For you, there is a direct train from Mumbai to Nanded, overnight.

Next week I am planning to go to Damdama Sahib - Only 5 hrs from Delhi and then later next month - the big trip to Patna Sahib.

This should complete all 5 Takhts darshan :om:
