Do you think lions are scary? Wait until you are in a den of lion cubs in the middle of a zoo. Well during one of my spring breaks my friends and I visited a lodge in the north west part of South Africa. Amazing is the experience we had. I was an awe that there are such magical places in my backyard that we never visit or to enquire about.
I have been around South Africa, however this place is out of the ordinary. I have been to lodges, seen wild animals probably interacted with them but to touch them? A lion for that matter, no I have never. Well out of fear of lions I initially told the guide that I am not going inside the cage but would rather observe my friends interacting with them from the outside.
While watching them have a great time, I decided I am not missing this occasional opportunity, so I finally gave in to go have a moment with the cute cubs. Lions are beautiful creatures, the cubs are mo. They are just too cute for words especially if you remove the cunning part of them out of the picture.
When you visit South Africa and happen to be in north Gauteng, Zebula lodge should not be far from your reach. If you are using public transport take a taxi from Pretoria CBD going to Bela Bela, when you get to Bela Bela CBD, get a taxi to Zebula lodge, one of the most out of the ordinary lodges in the north western part of South Africa.
You may get there driving and the driving distance between Pretoria and Zebula Golf Estate and Lodge, Mabula is 159 km. It takes approximately 2h 1m to drive from Pretoria to Zebula.
