Take a REST in Hong Kong: Rest Coffee Gin

This time, I want to introduce is a cafe and a bar in Hong Kong. Its name is Rest Coffee Gin. From the name of the shop, you may already notice the reason I said its a cafe and a bar. It serves as a cafe in the afternoon, and serve as a bar at night. So, I will split into two parts to introduce to you.

Before introducing the cafe and the bar to you all, we get back to some general introduction of the shop first.

The address is Hong Kong West Kowloon Art Park GF-04.

It is a Coffee house from 12:00- 18:00 (Mon-Sun)

a Gin and cocktail bar from 18:00- 00:00 (Tue-Sun)

Dinner from 18:00- 21:30 (Tue-Sun)

***Please aware of the day you visit the shop.

This cafe aims to create a comfortable and private space for every customer. While the customer comes and consumes the coffee, they hope you can enjoy the best coffee and maybe reading a book or chatting with your friends. Just enjoy a free afternoon. Back to the topic, the coffee house has served types of coffee beans and matcha. They are coming from different manors. So each type of coffee beans and matcha has its unique characteristics. If you are not an expert on those, you can ask them about it. After choosing the coffee bean or matcha, you will need to choose how you wanna make it. It will list on the menu. There are some cakes and bread serves in the afternoon. It is a flex menu, so you may ask them if you want to try it out. Their signature drinks are the Matcha Latte and the Espresso Tonic. For me, I have tried the Matcha Latte. The picture below is the Matcha Latte with a cheesecake. You will see a thick layer of matcha, the dark green layer above the milk (the white layer). It shows a great contrast between the two layers. The taste of the matcha is strong. While the milk mix with matcha, the taste of matcha brings out more. So you should try it if you are not a favor of coffee.

The second part is the bar. It is a gin bar They have different types of gin. You must love the bar if you are a gin lover. The bar has served two kinds of cocktails. One type is tea cocktail and another type is Gin cocktail. I have tried two different types of tea cocktails. The first one I tried is called “照葉林”. It is a cocktail using matcha as the base. At first, it is a cocktail recipe from Suntory to promote the matcha liqueur. The meaning of the cocktail is to imagine the atmosphere of the forest that is always green among the seasons. So the bartender from the bar has modified the cocktail. Normally, you will use hot water to boil matcha. But this time, bartender replace water with vodka… I won’t tell you about the whole procedure. If you want to know more about it, go to the bar and enjoy the cocktail by yourself. The color of the drink is really beautiful. While you keep drinking the cocktail, you will taste the matcha strongly. You can take some time to enjoy the drink, it’s not a cocktail that you need to finish it quickly. Even drinking at the end of the cocktail, you can still smell the spice of the matcha.

The second one calls Lotus. It uses Infused Gin of Chelan Rock Tea as the base. This one is stronger than the first one I tried. You will first taste the spice of the tea, then is the feeling of bitterness and then the floral. The cocktail has added lemon juice, Campari and orange liqueur. This cocktail has paid tribute to the recipe"Jasmine" from bartender Paul Harrington.

I will also recommend you, that reading my article, can also try on their dinner too, They are attractive as well. Follow their Instagram for the newest information. IG: rest.coffee.gin

Hi @Locke1231

Thank you for sharing. I’ve enlarged your photos to make them appear better here on Connect. I keep seeing more and more matcha drinks, and I still haven’t tried it. Could you tell us more what matcha is made of?

The cheesecake looks really delicious. It’s also my favorite type of cake and always take some kind of a cheesecake to try. This place looks really cool and the views are stunning! Do you often go there?

Hi @DanniS ,

Great thx for your assistance.

Actually, Matcha is a kind of green tea. And this name comes from Japan. When you taste matcha, you will first taste the bitterness of the tea, then the sweet from the tea. Sometimes, when you look at some videos or documentaries, it mentions about there is a traditional Japanese tea ceremony. The tea served in the ceremony is the matcha. You will see the traditional process of preparing the tea. In case, if you don’t know about the ceremony, here is a video for your reference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KfDTuNyup9Y

In some traditional hotels in Japan, sometime the reception will still perform the whole ceremony to their customers and serve the matcha to the customers as a welcoming drink.

So, matcha can use different kinds of food and drinks too. As I mentioned in the article, matcha has been used in the latte and cocktail. But in common ways, you will also see there are soba noodles, desserts, ice cream, mochi… that made by matcha. Matcha is good for health.

I know. Cheesecakes are delicious. The new york cheesecake, blueberry cheesecake… they are just wonderful.

I don’t go there often. But when there is a moment that I have stuck, I will go there, sitting on the coast side, think of any solution and watch the sunset there. It is really beautiful in the evening.

Nice to meet another matcha lover. From the menu, there are some more matcha cocktails too. I remembered there is a cocktail, use matcha as a base, and the taste is sweeter, which suits girls more. You should try it.
