Take A Free Ride Past The Statue of Liberty in New York

The Statue of Liberty is the first monument that comes to mind when one thinks of New York.

This statue is the prominent icon of New York and surprisingly I come to know that it was not built locally but came from overseas as a gift from France in faraway Europe. Given the enormous proportions and measures of the copper statue and the pedestal that it is installed on, I a quite sure this is the work of some ancient giants or aliens.

The status is the numero uno place to visit in New York and is located on a tiny island.
The Staten Island ferry that takes you past the island is free.
Yes, the ferry boat that crosses the upper bay doesn’t cost a Penny nor a Nikol. So be aware if someone starts selling you tickets outside the main entrance for the ferry ride.

I took a day-tour in New York and the tour operator dropped us where we could walk over and board the ferry easily so I don’t remember what place the ferry can be boarded.

A tip that I can provide though would be to find a place on the right-side for the best views of the Statue of Liberty though you are allowed to move around freely on the ferry.

The ferry does not travel quite close to the island so it is advised to carry a pair of binoculars if possible or just zoom in using your digital cameras to get a closeup view of the statue.

What else to do in New York

While you are still in New York also nick-named the Big Apple, here’s a list of places you cannot give a miss:

  1. Times Square
  2. Rockefeller Center
  3. Staton Island Ferry Ride
  4. WTC Ground Zero Site
  5. Empire State Building
  6. Brooklyn Bridge
  7. 5th Avenue Street and Shops
  8. Lincoln Memorial Park
  9. New York Stock Exchange
  10. Central Park

Have you ever visited a statue that is also a prominent landmark of that area?
I’d be interested in knowing.

Until then… Happy guiding

I had taken a day-tour bus @Sophia_Cambodia which is the best way to visit many places in a short time in a big place like New York.

The ferry is boarded from Whitehall Terminal https://goo.gl/maps/vXK175av1RkcdBm39 not far from Bowling Green subway station @TusharSuradkar

The ferry is a good way to get close to the Statue but is nothing like actually visiting. You’ve got to be careful when trying to visit the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island because you can ONLY do it from Statue Cruises https://goo.gl/maps/M8cGW8HSKFzQyk8z9 https://www.statuecruises.com/ all the others are scams that do not actually stop at the island, just go around it.

I would recommend a pedestal entry on Statue of Liberty for best access and the behind the scenes hard hat tour on Ellis Island.

Thanks for the notes @PaulPavlinovich

That is a nice addition to what is shared already.

The last time I tried to add such factual information, a moderator asked me to remove it citing it was copied from another website.

I complied but since then I stick to writing more about my experience and leave out any facts or figures, except for those that are very basic or obvious.

Nice post with Accessibility information. Thanks for sharing with us @TusharSuradkar

I write from my own personal experience @TusharSuradkar as long as you do that you should be fine. I’ve visited the statue four times over my two trips. Ellis island is fascinating and I visit there with the statue as a bonus part of the ferry ride.
