Sydney Local Guide

Daniel, 27, amateur at most, opinion on all.

There doesn’t seem to be much on Google Local Guides about this lonely island in the southern hemisphere to discuss what’s on in Sydney, Australia. So I’ll be opening myself up and sharing my reviews and views of some of my favourite parts around Sydney, different suburbs and things to do, occasional foodie reviews and art escapes, as well as sharing my explorations outside of the big smoke and into the smaller towns and cities in NSW and the wider Australia.

Sydney can also be an incredibly expensive tourist trap for those who don’t know what to do or where to go. When I go travelling, I look for these local experiences, the lonely planets and trip-advisors of the world provide a good outline of cities, but the specifics of what to do and eat and see have become too mainstream, monetised and disassociated from what they once were. Anything that can be commercialised tends to lose its authenticity and uniqueness as they aim to make a dollar more than they did the day before - I appreciate this, and fully understand the need to do this as a business owner, as a provider for a family, and as an opportunist, but the loss of authenticity is [IMO] what’s changing local unique experiences.

I aim to I do this as I’ve been looking for the same local experience when I go overseas. I was recently in Italy, where the best parts of my trip were off the beaten track, experiences and explorations that were told to us by local friends or other travellers who spoke the language, knew the nuances of the cities and what the locals loved to do.

Feel free to engage, ask me some more specific questions about myself, my spare time, my hobbies and what I enjoy doing as a Sydney local.
