Hi @RonitBadal ,
Thanks for sharing those delicious photos. My favorite is Badaam peda. Last time I celebrated Diwali with my Indian friend there were so many of those sweets.
I just have a question and I am very curious to ask how is it possible to add that metallic color on the sweets? Can it be eaten?
Hey @TsekoV Thats called as Vark, also called varak (also silver leaf, German paper), is super finefiligree foil sheet of pure metals, typically silver but sometimes gold, used to decorate Asian sweets and food to make those look more appetising. The silver and gold are edible, though flavorless.![]()
This is very educative @RonitBadal , thank you for explaining.
Adding varak to the sweets we prepare for sure do look appetizing. I just felt a little bit scared if it is edible and healthy to eat it.
I think this post might be interesting to you @BeatrizAguilar . Have you ever heard of varak before?
@TsekoV I’ve never heard of this luxury dessert before. I only know that in some expensive pastry shops they cover chocolate with gold.
Wow
all sweets are here No needs to tast it byTeeth please give me one by one and all localguidesconnect and share with us .
Those kind of sweets must be very expensive and exquisite, such as those prepared for Christmas @BeatrizAguilar .
@PranabDaulagupu Just a reminder to share with you, when responding to others make sure to use @ in front of their names so you can tag them and they can see a notification with your answer.
I like your idea. : )
@TsekoV there are not expensive desserts for christmas, because the traditional buñuelos and quesillo are made with cheap ingredients that are easy to find and buy. I like to make a cake with chocolate on December 24th called marble cake and we eat turrón and panettone too. People traditionally eat “black cake”, Caribbean Rum Soaked Fruit Cake.
*TurrĂłn: a kind of Spanish confectionery resembling nougat, made from almonds and honey.
*Panettone: a rich Italian bread made with eggs, fruit, and butter and typically eaten at Christmas.
Buñuelo: a fried dough ball.
Every time I read one of your posts @BeatrizAguilar I hurry up to write down everything that you share with me. : )
By looking at all your posts I am sure all the Local Guides will fall in love in all about Colombia and the desserts that people prepare there.
As for the marble cake, I think it would be one of a kind and it must be your family’s favorite one.
@TsekoV Marbled cake became one of my family since everybody loves chocolate and it’s more easy to do than the black cake; which needs to be prepared early, 2 months at least, because the fruits that holds this cake have to be soaked with red wine during several weeks. Also, not everyone likes the flavor of this dense cake, especially the kids. It’s very moist and has liquor taste.
I am surprised that a cake would need 2 months to be prepared @BeatrizAguilar . I guess the easier and faster one to prepare is better option and still delicious enough to be your family’s favorite! : )
